New sci-fi show?

Didn't see anyone post about this yet, but on IMDB's front page they have a trailer for a new TNT show Falling Skies, with Noah Wyle. It looks like something in the V or Independence Day vein - technologically superior alien race comes to Earth and humans fight a guerrilla war against them. It has Noah Wyle (of ER fame) and Dale Dye (numerous military commander type roles), and is produced by Dreamworks TV. Any chance it might be good for all the sci-fi starved masses out there, especially now that SyFy has canceled Caprica and SGU?

looks interesting but frankly a little uninspired. I'll check it out though.

It looks well put together and quite likely I'll enjoy watching the series, but I have to agree: it looks like they took many story-lines that have been played out numerous times, and combined them to make something that appears remotely new.

Not to mention, I swear it gets annoying how TV operates these days. One network does some "category" of show, and either that season or the following season the other networks have jumped on board with their own versions of that category.

Or if it's hopeless to compete at the time, they wait till the big show is over, and then jump in and try and make a show, or at least market said show, to that same audience.

When is it slated for?

June 2011.

I can picture the TNT network execs meeting.
"So, SighFy has wrestling on Friday nights?" Check
"They just killed off SGU and Caprica?' Check
"They have nothing in the pipeline until a BSG type movie in late 2011-2012?" Check.
"They pissed off and pissed on their fanbase?" Check

"Ok. How about a pew-pew-pew alien invasion series?"
"HeHe. Were gonna get the SighFy fanbase!"

Looks pretty good. One thing I like about it already: The aliens aren't people wearing prosthetic foreheads; they're definitely not humanoid.

That could well be how the boardroom conversation went. As a science fiction fan, I want to see aliens, and I want to see some action, and some good old fashioned pew-pew. Lots of pew-pew.

Which means they will be creatively killed in ways that would be too extreme for basic cable if they were humanoid!

saw the promo since they have basketball right now.

very interested. TNT has some really interesting shows and seems to like keeping them around(Leverage for example).

Mmmm, Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation, Eight Below). One compelling reason to watch. Looks interesting though.

I wonder if Wylie will play the sort of bumbling fool he did in the Librarian series, or he will play it straight.

Either way, its scifi, and with the death of the SciFi channel its very welcome.
