From the article:
"...the graphics chip vendor expects to launch the flagship chip in early 2006."
and
"Volume shipments are slated for the first quarter of next year, the sources expect."
That means that it will launch in Q1 2006 which could be anywhere between 1 Jan 2006 and 31 March 2006. It does not necessarily mean, as you put it, early Q1 2006.
All that being said, go ATI. I love the competition as it brings down prices.
