While China's government are no angels, you can't blame them for this. Why would they trust anything tech wise, software of hardware, from the US ? These companies should be blaming the US government for their own illegal surveillance, backdoors etc. as much as the Chinese government for causing their businesses to suffer.

They should look into a lawsuit against the NSA for deteriorating the perceived security of their products.

No they did not. These new rules are being proposed now, which means they've already been approved, more or less, barring an organized consortium against it and lawsuits.

this has been how they operate from day one...ask the thousands of small fish entrepreneurs that barely escaped with their lives.
 
The west wishes it could demand backdoors in everything, and they are trying to get something in place.
Don't whine just because China managed to get it done first, be worried that the rest of the world wants to do it too.
