New Router keeps dropping connection

So I have purchased, the Asus RT-n66u twice, the Linksys ea4500, and the ea3500. With all 3 of these routers I am able to set them up just fine the internet works fine, and then come the connection drops. It doesnt matter if I'm wired or wireless, the internet connection will not be stable for more than 5-10 mins a time. I called ASUS tech support and thier stumped too. Firmware is not a factor as Ive updated them for all 3 routers. I'm using a ping monitor to see how much it drops. In the last 40 mins it dropped 12 times with a wired connection and typically takes 45-90 secs to come back up.

The interesting thing is that my current router a Linksys E2000 is working just fine and is routing 12 wireless devices with no loss of connectivity. I wanted to upgrade to a router with a longer range, but out of the 3 I tried so far none work. There must be a reason why the e2000 works and the others dont.
I'm ruling out that its an issue with my ISP or the Arris modem that came with comcast becuase thats been up for weeks. What am I missing?

Can someone pleas help?

To add range you do not upgrade Router, you add Routers configured as an Access Point.

Lay a CAT6 cables to central locations in the house that is close to the destination Wireless client and install an Access Point, or Cable/DSL Router configured as an Access Points. Then connect it to the Main Router.

Using Access Points or Wireless Cable/DSL Routers as a Switch with an Access Point - http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html

Any chance the issue isn't the routers but the card in your laptop / desktop, or a driver issue or something? I'd think if it worked for one it'd work for all, and vice-versa, but... I've seen plenty of things that don't make sense over the years, perhaps it's worth checking out just to be sure where the problem is?

Nope just as I stated before my old linksys e2000 is working finevwirednor wireless. There is something with these newer routers that doesn't seem to work with either Comcast or my 3 year old computer

The Asus RT-n66u twice, the Linksys ea4500 are considered the top End user Wireless Routers.

There is Nothing else to consider as a real better choice.

If every thing else his exactly the same as with the E2000, something is wrong in the way you set your Wireless with the new Router.

I agree, most likely it's a NIC issue.

I also agree with Jack's point. Get some access points or disable the DHCP settings on some routers.

I am having the exact same issue.

Comcast is my ISP

I currently use an older linksys - works fine, just a little slow.

Bought a new Netgear n600 - worked great for a bit, then very intermittent.

I returned that one for an Asus n56 - worked great for a bit, now very intermittent.

All the while I still have the ten year old linksys up and running fine.

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

Is it just the router that is bad? Are any connected hosts (desktops, laptops, phones, etc.) dropping signals?

It could be a case of faulty firmware in the router.

That would make two routers...the only thing that doesn't drop out is our Roku. Everything else shows connected but drop regularly, whether on wifi or LAN. I wonder if it could be that the cable modem can't keep up? Any way to test that?

if you have the Asus still, try using the Tomato firmware... I upgraded to it within a couple days of receiving the router and have been running rock solid for months.

I think I may have figured it out. when I had Comcast put the modem/router combo into bridge mode, I don't they did it correctly. I just exchanged it out for a pure telephony modem with no router built in.

Interesting, my cable modem is a dual modem as well, but I don't use the wifi function.

Keep me posted on your progress, please.

I had issues with lynksys routers for a while. I switched to a dlink router and never had a problem. Now I gave that router to my bro since his lynksys router was slow he said. I have a faster connection so it does the job for me.

Just for future reference for anyone reading this - if you had mentioned that it was a router/modem combo (same thing as a gateway) then people would have been able to spot the issue right away. You usually won't be able to daisychain two home routers together on default settings - one has to be changed to bridged or access point mode. The terminology can get confusing because a gateway is often referred to as a router and as a modem (not incorrect, but confusing).

Interesting, my cable modem is a dual modem as well, but I don't use the wifi function.

Keep me posted on your progress, please.

If you're also using your own router connected to a gateway device then you need to go into the settings for one of the routers and put it into access point mode.

Just a quick update - switched the cable modem out for a telephony only - good to go since

I am having a problem with my Asus router. I connect 6 ip phone, 7 pcs, 5 printers and 6 cameras. I have a dsl connection. I was using a dlink 655 router for the past 3 years with no issues. Now I've decided to upgrade to the Asus rt , my dsl connection keeps going down. It worked great for the first two weeks. But my AC went out over the weekend and the router heated us to over 100 degrees so I think it may be something to do with the device environmental surroundings. I solved my problem quickly. I went back to the dlink 655 router.

Guys, I am having this EXACT problem.

My modem is the Arris tm722g. Someone said above about how I should setup one of them as a bridge or Access Point... Can I do that with the Router? If anyone has ideas I would appreciate...

Asus and Comcast are both blaming eachother but no one wants to really solve the problem..

Your Arris tm722g is not a router/modem combo. It is strictly an internet and VOIP modem. You can't set it to bridge mode because it's already in bridge mode, it can only be in bridge mode.

Unless the modem itself is faulty, which is unlikely (are your telephones cutting out too?), the problem isn't the modem.

First thing I would do is call Comcast and have them check the signal strength of the line. If it's not the modem, and it's not the line, it's definitely not Comcast's issue.

I have tested with 3 different routers. Two from Asus (returned the last one, thinking it could be flawed) and a E4200 v1.
Same symptoms.

My telephones are not cutting.

I am really lost on trying to find any thing that I could be doing wrong.. I also changed the cable connecting the devices to rule that out..

Thank you!

Ok, this is going to sound crazy, but I found something that triggers the issue. We have 3 ipads here...my wife's ipad (iPad 3), whenever it joins the network, the whole connection becomes intermittent..

I have done several tests now... today I tried to simulate the problem while she was at work and it work flawless, when she got here the connection immediately started to act out. I turn off her Ipad's wifi and the connection went back 100% stable.

Now what exactly in the ipad that is triggering the instability, that's where I would like to know..

:(

I restored the Factory Settings on the ipad and then restored the data. Problem went away..

Craziest issue I've seen in a long time.
