Rainbow Six: Vegas, Command and Conquer 3 looks pretty nice.... here Supreme Commander does too.... World in Conflict coming out in a week and looks amazing.

RTS- Command and Conquer 3, Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes All have very good graphics and are very different RTS games, pick the one that best suits you.

FPS- STALKER sounds good, I'm thinking of getting it myself for the same reason as you, I'm looking for a new game to show off my computer. Rainbow Six: Vegas..then of course Oblivion if you like it.

Three games that you will definitely enjoy with a new system...of course, you also have BioShock and Spore coming down the pipeline.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ... the game is worth typing out all the damn periods. Just know that the beginning is a bit frustrating, but once yet get a bit more advanced the game is brilliant.

The game is very atmospheric, and if you've got a kick-ass rig, the lighting/effects are brilliant. With my new build everything was maxed and it was great.

The game world is huge, the AI is pretty tough at the harder difficulty levels, and the level design is amazing ... the town outside of the Chernobyl plant is modelled, and they did a great job of it.

RPG - definitely Oblivion
FPS - I'm a bit biased toward Quake 4, but I think it still holds its own as far as benchmarking games go. Stalker is a bit too washed out and ugly for me.
RTS - Supreme Commander or CnC3
