After almost a month waiting i got the vid card today so put together all my new bits. Problem is when i turn it on it does not boot at all, no post. I stick seagte diskmanager boot disk in floppy, turn power on and...
What happens is: the mobo power led comes on, case power led comes on, fans spin, CDROM and CDRW led's come on... and then it beeps a lot. The beep sequence is (approx) two quick beeps, gap, 7 beeps, gap, two beeps. monitor led flashes orange throughout, just like when comp power has been turned off on my old comp.

sometimes it does not beep at all and when this happens it will also not turn off from the case switch.

checked all conectors, reinstalled ram, removed the Ricoh CDRW, no joy. checked the jumpers, only two that i see, one for the cpu bus and id moved that to 133 so back to 100... no joy. changed the dip-switch from AUTO to the setting for "CPU 133, PCI 33, AGP 66" - no joy.

someone help please! i have no idea and its really frustrating :(((((

test each component (what you can) in a different machine to verify it works.

Start the machine with only the video card. memory and cpu in place. make sure your MB is not grounding in the case against a misplaced standoff.

Check each stick of RAM seperately one of those sticks could be dead...as for grounding out usually you won't get any beeps. Possible the CPU could be dead also. First and formost make sure you start up the machine with the bare minimum of periphials and also make sure they are seated properly

Oh I forgot to add Disconnect the floppy,CD-Rom,and hard drive cables also before testing the main components( CPU,Memory,Vid card) might be that one of the above periphials is not jumpered correctly and the main parts are not the problem.

i'll try it with just AGP card... theres no way to test any components except CD drives (well HDD too i guess) as previous comp is too old, uses edo and no agp...

i was very careful installing the HSF, if cpu dead is it likely to be returnable?

proly will be back in 15mins after i try that. thanks...

is the CPU OEM or retail? if it is retail you are covered fairly well on the other hand with OEM CPUS the warrenty varies from vendor to vendor

ok i disconnected all the ide cables and each device's power. removed the second ram chip, and also the extra usb cable. turned on, got the 'no beeps nothing' problem. switched the memory, got the 'lots of beeps' problem.

aw sh!t :((((((

im gonna try putting mu old vid card in, a PCI diamond edge 2mb. uh how do i remove the agp card, not sure about this AGP clip thing that came on it.

uh OEM cpu i think, came in a little box but no standard HSF.

I dont know anything about the clip, but i would make sure the vid card is seated properly in the agp slot. a lot of times it will be in there slanted. You might have to go as far as adding extra spacers between the mobo and case on the side where all the connectors are to lift it up a bit.

from the time delay, u ppl will have guessed i got it sorted :) sorry for not coming back to say so but kinda got caught up :)

spot on from most of you; put the PCI vid card in and it worked so i just put the AGP card in harder - got a more satisflying 'clunk' this time and all works superb, eexcept one issue (and a couplea q's thats unrelated so ill stick in new post.
