Wanted to spend less than $500, haven't built a machine for myself in a very long time and wanted some inputs from the AT family 🙂.

Mobo: Asus Mp3A78-CM $70 (miniATX version)
CPU: Athlon 64 X2 5400+ RETAIL $65 (retail cooling and AMD 3 year warranty)
Ram: SuperTalent DDR2-800 4GB (2x2gb) $35
Video: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4850 1GB DDR3 PCI-E $163
Power supply: Sparkle ATX-450PN-B204 ATX 450W $52
Case: Some old coolermaster I have laying around $0
HDD/Optical: Using spare drives I have $0
Monitor/KB: Old dell 20" LCD with spare logitech kb/mouse $0

Total with shipping and tax from Ewiz: $430.68

Dumb question, the Radeon HD4850 handles sound duty as well? My monitor only has dvi/vga.

Any thought and tips appreciated 🙂.

/thanks

That machines will run WoW just fine. Most likely, SC2 will run very well on it as well, but the game hasn't been released yet so its hard to make a definitive call.

The Radeon 4850 does not carry out sound processing. I am unfamiliar with the details, but your motherboard choice has sound on board. Most boards have onboard sound these days.

Um...read up a little more before commenting.

Your motherboard's onboard sound will handle that bit

You may want to think about spending a bit more on processor, definitely for WoW. My 3.5gHz e7200 bottlenecked my old 8800GT in WoW. That 4850 is for SURE gonna get slowed down by the 5400+. Althought, you could build it like it is now, and in a few months upgrade to a Phenom II. I like that idea! Just be sure to get a motherboard now that will support PII

Fortunately, Blizzard has the very good habit of making games with quite modest hardware requirements. So that rig will probably run SC2 fine as well.
