Upgrading my mom from a 400 mhz PII to a rig that beats mine down in every way, except I might have a slight edge in the video department (GF3 Ti200 v. nForce 2 integrated) 😛.

My dad is also gonna use it for some rudimentary video editing, and I figure this will last them for 4-5 years. Plus it might be acceptable as an extra machine if we need one for a LAN party...(Or at least better than a Duron 750 and a Radeon 7200)

2X256MB PC3200 RAM (May as well use the dual-channel if it's availible)
Antec SX630II Case w/ 300W PS (Has front USB and Firewire, easier access for my dad's DV camera)
Epox 8RGA+ (Aka the 8RDA+ + Integrated graphics)
AMD Athlon Xp 2500+ (1.83 GHz) Retail Box (No o/c'ing going on here 😉)

Should be a nice build A5. I would also concur with the others that if you are going to run the Barton stock, then I would just get the PC2700 DDR and not the 3200. Depending on the CPU stepping, you may be able to run the FSB at 200 and cut the multiplier back to 9.5 which wouldn't be much of an OC. The retail HSF performs rather well, but I'd scrape off the TIM and use AS3.

I lapped my Barton 2500+ Retail HSF, removing the nickel plating and used AS3. I am currently running at 52C with full load and high ambient room temps. Before the 80/90 degree weather set in I was around 42C, full load, with the CPU multiplier OC to 2800+ speeds.
