I put together this computer for my friend a little while ago, and he's planning on going to order it today. However, a few minutes ago he came across $130 more towards his computer and I'm not sure what he should change/upgrade. Is there anything here that will be significantly bottlenecking the rest, that could be changed? His budget is $850

Motherboard: ASUS M2V, $86
CPU: AMD X2 4200+, $117
Video Card: eVGA GeForce 8600GT, $139
Memory: Kingston DDR2, 2gb, $74
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 250gb, $96
DVD-RW: Samsung S183L, $41.50
Power Supply: Enermax Liberty 400w, $86
Case: CoolerMaster 534, $79

Total: $718.50

Thanks!

I would definetly recommend upgrading his CPU to a e4400 Allendale, especially if he overclocks. It will run cooler, use less energy, and run at similar performance as the X2 4200.

Of course you will then need find a new mobo, but I can do that for you.

I recommend the P35 boards. They will overclock very well and will be compatible with the Penryn.

With whatever he has left, invest it into proper cooling, especially if he OC's.

With this setup the price will only go up like $50.

I hope this helped,

Ryan

Oh you live in Canada aswell... pm me and we can talk about stores and work on a much better system for around the same price.
