<sigh> yep, me, too

Did you have to do this in the BIOS settings?

"The board was a tremendous pain to get stable with our Radeon 9700. It ended up being as simple as changing our "UC" setting to "USCW" in the BIOS. This has some control over video memory as previously stated in the BIOS section. We were having constant crashes in CCWinstone and toggling to USCW solved all of our issues with that. We have played with this BIOS setting before and never have seen a significant difference with it set one way or another"

im using an nvidia vid card, and no uswc didnt worky....

beyond 190fsb it needs 1.7v agp.

i already verified that agp pci lock is working perfectly.

cool, that coincides with my findings😉. How the heck did bigtoe over at Asusboards get to 200fsb?

Edit: I have found borderline instability (AGP-related) at 175fsb+ but have eliminated this issue by increasing the Vagp to 1.7V!!!

Hey thanks alot! I noticed this line in your post and tried it myself (2.4B, Gigabyte 9700 pro, Epox 4PEA+, 512 XMS PC3200), I can now pass p95 at 3350mhz when i couldnt before! Now i've gotta go for more. (I know my oc isnt as high as yours but I'm proud of it considering its a B0 stepping.) Maybe I could start one of these threads one of these days 😉

Btw: What speeds have you gotten up to with your XMS PC3200 at? Mine is at 465 ddr right now with 2.9 vdimm. It seems stable & has not given me any problems in benchies & such but I don't have a long enough floppy cable right now to use my drive so I can't run memtest86 on it. :frown:

Rhett: wow, your B0 o/c is sick:Q! Your RAM is killer, too; I'm curious, when did you purchase it? The XMS3200 I got is from back in October and seems to do better than most ('cept yours😉). I've MemTest'ed it to DDR454, maybe higher but not much. I wonder if there's a way to create a bootable MemTest86 CD? I'm sure it could be done unless, of course, you were afraid your mem wouldn't pass at those speeds😛. (j/k🙂)

MarkFahey: thanks for the complement, I'm pretty amazed, too🙂! I use a Maze3 into a DD GPU block into a DD reservoir into an Aquavia1300 pump into a pretty massive DTek radiator (shrouded with an old/quiet/slim 120mm fan from a Mac G3) back into the Maze3. I use Tygon tubing (thick and flexible), distilled water with about 8-10% Water Wetter mix (can't tell anymore😉), and a touch of blue flourescent dye which works quite nicely with my UV cold cathode light🙂.

I've added unbuffered Sandra mem scores per ObiWan's, erm I mean THUGSROOK's, request😛.

well, I HAVE to try 3DMark03, so I'll be installing SP1 and DX9, thereby ruining the test bench here😉. I'll post some comparisons after the "upgrade" (

) and go from there🙂.

. . .and THAT, folks, is the effect produced by prolonged exposure to loud heatsink fans:Q😛!

Wow, 3DMark03 is one humbling mofo of a benchmark; I saw my fps drop to 7 in some places:Q! Nice change of scene-ery, though😉. Onward. . .

hehe ~ this is kinda funny....

go into your bios and change your vcore, then check your vcore in bios.
itll be exactly what you set it to ~ but you didnt even save & exit yet! :Q 😉

ooooo, you don't think that Asus would simply copy the Vcore value to the Hardware Monitor Vcore reading field, do you? I mean, they wouldn't do that, right:Q😉😛??

heh, right

lol!

i aint tellin you 😛 😛 😛 😛

for cas 2225 its 17 04 respectively
for cas 2226 its 17 02
i didnt test 2227.

😛 😀

<EDIT> if you want to also change the write speed (hex bit3) to cas2 (22252 1T) that would be 1F 04
im still testing that last setting tho

wow, yea go for the 1F 04 offsets ~ its faster and desktop goes zoooom!
im at 167fsb tho.... youll need to test for yourself.

the cas2 write speed wont show in cpu-z.
and im not even really sure where to place it so for now ill call it cas 22252
rolleye.gif
default value was cas3.

HTH 🙂

we may need to start a WPcredit thread........

CL2-2-2-5 @172fsb running all night with the offsets 1F 04 for me. The other two offset values did not change.

how are we supposed to memtest86 it?

im running so slow (340ddr) i doubt id fail ~ but id still like to test somehow 😕

is that what you were already running? or by my recommendation?
how is it running for you? benchmarks better? windows feel faster?

😀

Hey guys - i'm really glad I stumbled on this thread-- i'm just in the process of upgrading from my 1.8A Northwood...
So consensus is I should get a 2.4B + P4G8X and two (identical) sticks of XMS3000 to pull something like this off? I'm just looking to hit ~3gHz.

Is advanced cooling necesary? I hate LOUD stuff - I try to keep my case as quiet as possible... So if AIR cooling is ok, know any good quiet+fast fans for a SUGGESTED heatsink? If water cooling is the only way I may have to bow out, I think it may be a bit over my head >_<

I'm noticing talk of "C1 Stepping, Week __" -> Is that imperative to this OC working? What do you all suggest? and WHERE to buy? (I usually get newegg stuff b/c they are decent price and ship FAST [from cali to fla they're only like 3 days!]... Another note: using GF4 Ti4400 -- what's w/ the talk of AGP multipliers and stuff?

Sorry for such a bunch of questions; I've been out of the hardware market for over a year now (since my last upgrade) and am very intrigued by HT...

THANKS IN ADVANCE TO THUGS AND ERIK WHO WILL NO DOUBT GIVE ME VERY GOOD HELP {right!?}

Hmm... I'm not THUGS or Erik, so I don't know how much help I could be, but here it goes.. 😛

IMO, most of the 2.4B's are hitting ~3GHz mark. It's just how far you'll be able to push it beyond 3GHz... To be safe, I'd go with XMS3200's instead of XMS3000's. THUGS' 3000's are "special" ones, I believe... 😉

I don't think it's necessary, but you'll need better than stock cooling. I think THUGS is using Alpha8942 with Panaflo M1A, which pushes decent amount of air with noise level you can live with. For aircooling, I'd go with Alpha with a decent fan (may be one of those adjustable ones?)

I don't think it's imperative, but helps (a lot, IMO). Both Erik and I got it locally... As far as getting a C1 2.4B through online retailers are kind of a gamble right now... About AGP stuff, you'll have to ask them. I don't really know what they're talking about half the time anyway... 😀

Hope I helped a bit... As far as I know, only 3.06 chips are HT capable at this moment...
Have fun~
