With the heat output of this 4850, I think it may be time for a gtx260? Also it seems like the gtx260 is much closer to the 4870 than I originally thought.

:/ Their numbers don't it come close to what all other reviews I've read suggest. In most cases their review shows the GTX260 being better than 4870; while all other reviews I've read show the opposite. I'm just gonna take their review as a grain of salt.

Processor Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (3GHz, 12MB L2) @ 4GHz

Like I've been saying, GT200 and the faster multi-GPU solutions out there are CPU bottlenecked. Early reviews were using 3-3.2GHz CPUs and showed very little difference between many of the high-end GPUs or multi-GPU solutions, even with 4870CF compared to 4850CF. Now look at 4870CF compared to 4850CF, there is no doubt which is faster. You will see the same thing with 4870X2 once reviewers start using OC'd CPUs. With GT200 they scale nicely with increased clockspeeds, often sitting somewhere between 4850CF and 4870CF.

Yup, with all the big sites saying otherwise, why would one trust this instead? And their settings are questionable, most FPS there are too high and they could have upped the AA quite a bit, and the 4870 would show its true strength, but they didnt, I wonder why

I wish more reviews would state minimum FPS. I think that is where the dual-cards get hurt. On the few reviews that report minimum FPS, the dual card set-up is not much different from a single one of the cards from the dual set-up. In fact sometimes the cross-fire and SLI have lower minimum FPSs than a single one of the cards in the dual set-up ? for example, look at these reports: http://www.driverheaven.net/re...?reviewid=586&pageid=7

If this is correct then the SLI and Crossfire set-ups are not really improving game play, right? In other words, what good is SLI and Crossfire if it improves averages and maximum FPs that are already smooth (will you really notice difference between 50 FPS and 60 FPS) but does not improve minimum FPSs and you get hit with choppy parts in games when the lows on those dual-card set-ups happen more than on a single powerful card.

Most other reviews show such different results so this one threw me for a loop.

This 4850 really is heating my room though.

This review is 100% BIAS the so called games used are under "The way its meant to be played" Overcoat well most of them.. That means by default they perform better on Nvidia than on an ATi... Why no COD4 or GRID or even AC without the 10.1 removal patch!!!

You can certainly look to other reviews that cover those games you mentioned and compare.
There is no shortage of reviews on the net. They are everywhere. To complain about one in particular doesn't make much sense, if you can go check out a dozen other reviews and get your answers.

And FYI, there are literally hundreds of games that are under TWIMTBP. Chances are, reviewers may check out one or two of them in their travels. ;)

And FYI again, TWIMTBP doesn't automatically mean it will play better on Nvidia hardware. Some do, some don't.

And lastly, AC 10.1 was buggy. But you can still run the original 10.1 if you don't patch it.

It would be great if AT ran another set of benchmarks with the updated driver sets for both cards.

Maybe that was the difference in these benchmarks?

You make it look like dx10.1 was the cause of a bug. In itself, 10.1 -> 10.0 != bug-fix.
