The stipulations are getting pretty tough to even use these certificates...there isn't much in my area that is worthwhile. If you can find a restaurant near you that accepts these with decent terms, definitely a great deal. Good luck!

It should be said how these things work - it makes them less of a good deal, but still a good deal.

They play games, instead of being a $25 gift certificate like that normally means, they have a 'minimum purchase' higher than the certificate amount, typically $35.

If they didn't and were just the discount on the certificate, they'd be a nutty deal - $2 for $25 in food - over a 90% discount.

They also appear to typically add mandatory service charges up to 20% before discount, which makes sense.

As it is, it appears the typical deal might be at least $35 in food + 20% tip + tax + certificate $2 = about $47, less the $25 gift certificate, so about 50% off the total cost.

I picked up a bunch for a DC trip. $105 in GC's cost me $6.25. If I even use 1 of them then they are all paid for.

Yeah, the one restaurnt I wanted is $25 cert for $12.50. Min purchase of $35. 18% gratuity added to pre-tax amount. Makes it not really worth the deal anymore...

Presuming you're not a total weasel and welching someone on their income, that "20% service fee" is not an additional expense. It's just ensuring that a tip is based not on what you pay ($12) versus what the food is worth ($35).

LOL didn't you see the thread in ATOT about tipping. Apparently ATOT has a few users who refuse to tip, ever. I agree 20% is about what I normally tip (if not a bit more) so this is a smoking deal. Even if I you gotta get $35 in food to use it. After a drink + appitizer + main course most places will be at least $35 when I go out.

I tipped my waitress 30% because she was serving some asshats next to us on Sat. They were all drunk and dressed like leprechauns.

I think the normal price on these IS 80% off. So the "normal" price is 5x the (nearly) everyday price.
