U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay, who lost his leadership post because of his ties to a disgraced lobbyist and faces felony charges in his home state, now has another worry: an unprecedented four-way primary for the seat he's held comfortably for 22 years.

While two of DeLay's challengers in the March 7 primary aren't considered to have much credibility ? one is making his fourth attempt to unseat DeLay and the other has lived overseas much of her adult life ? lawyer Tom Campbell of Sugar Land holds an impressive Republican resume.

Campbell worked on the presidential campaigns of Bob Dole and the elder George Bush, whose administration appointed him general counsel to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. A former Harris County Republican Party official runs Campbell's campaign.

"I don't believe in the any-means-necessary brand of politics," Campbell said Wednesday at a reception held for him at a Houston law firm. "That leads to cutting corners to win, which leads to ethical lapses."

Tom Delay is the greatest embarrassment to the Republican party since Richard Nixon

I'm not embarrassed. I feel more embarrassed for the Democrats who are currently destroying their party image and virtually ensuring a Republican in 2008. but that's just me :p

Yeah, it's just you. Or maybe you just haven't been eying the news in the last few years..

The Republicans have cornholed their image of fiscal responsibility, small government, and that whole 'honor and dignity' thing, all the while dealing with a variety of scandals that make Americans look like corrupt sick fvcks. Yeah, those poor embarrassed dems...

Keep the Rush act up though, it will indeed insure some changes in 2008 :)

Stangely enough, I thought that the Dem's had the election in 2004 and were wiped out. Never count your chickens before they're hatched comes to mind. 2006 will be an interesting year muchless waiting until 2008.

Neither party is doing anything worthy of bragging about.

I agree on that one. Both parties are pathetic, but at least if there is a split in power, things seem to be more under control. One party rule hasn't proven it's done a thing for the people.

If they guy has any sense of decency (or even realism) he will not run again. He is bound to lose.

Yes, both of the parties are doing very poorly lately. However, Clinton was a great president and unfortunatley his public image was ruined by some complete crap that was blown completely out of proportion.

I somewhat disagree that Clinton was a great President. Very little impressive on his resume.
What differs in someone like Clinton Vs. GWB is that Clinton failed to do really stupid things
regarding governmental policies. Hence the country prospered.------we even had a slight budgit surplus.---which went in less than a year under GWB-----who does really stupid things bad in the short and long term.

As for the hammer------hopefully he will be beat in the Republican primary-----if a jail cell does not get him first. If not, its likely the Dems will get his seat in November. The man has become a poster boy for corruption. His chickens have truly come home to roost.

Well that's true. When you run a Frankestien impersonator who has a drunk looking wife that's to be expected. Dems need an attractive candidate and not a senator either - too much bagage to win. Maybe that former virgina gov

Atleast the Dems didn't get stuck with the hillbillies and psycho Christians. I would kill myself if those groups became indy's.

No doubt that GWB's many stupid mistakes have made Clinton look all the better, but Clinton made many large accomplishments as well. Such as the many new jobs created (6 million in first 2 years alone), and the low-income tax cuts while only slighty raising taxes on the wealthy (rather than just making tax cuts for the upper class like Bush). I don't want to type a long post outlining everything good he did, just google it...

Dude, he would just become a lobbyist and "legally" bilk the American taxpayer.

Not disagreeing with Delas 52 who cites Clinton adding six million jobs as a great accomplishment.

The point being----if leadership does smart things-----or fails to do dumb things---the economy expands--jobs are added----its a
secondary result and not a result in itself.

If you do dumb things like GWB has done----the economy shrinks---jobs are not added---and only adding massive debt keeps
a semblance of normalcy.

But right now the Republicans seem drunk on power------they confuse getting things done with doing smart things vs. dumb things that will have a an ineveitable consequence. By the time theineveitable consequences hit Bush will be out of office or inpeached,
Delay will go on to a brillant career in lobbying or be in jail, and we the people will be stuck with the bill.

I'd be more convinced of your political expertise if you could first master how to spell a simple word like ensure.

Sorry for being a spellchecker, but its always amusing to see a ton of spelling errors when someone is professing to be some sort of expert on a topic like politics.

But by the way, we were supposed to "indeed see some changes" in 2004 but it didn't happen. Keep dreaming lib.

The other race to watch is who suceeds Delay to become Republican whip--both Blunt and his rival from Ohio
have some impresive corruption credentials in their own right.

What taking the justice department so long in regards to getting the indictments rolling out?
And how can Delay avoid being at the top of the list?
