"The only reason that is imaginable as to why generators would not generate power ... is because they thought that withholding (energy) from the market would drive the price up," said the commission's general counsel, Gary Cohen.

These 5 Companies overcharged Calif by $20 billion during the power crisis: Duke, Dynegy, Mirant, Reliant and AES/Williams. Any of these 5 companies in California?

Some of the generaters could not be turned on because they would violate polution standards.

If you dipsh!tz were serious about replacing Davis why the hell did you nominate a flotsam like Bill Simon? In fact how come when it comes to Republican nominees for any statewide office you guys always nominate the biggest loser you can find? Feinstein, Boxer and Davis aren't loved here but they always mange to kick the living sh!t any of the Closet Queens, Frat boys and Corrupt CEO's you throw against them. You can laugh at Davis all you want but until you nominate a serious opponent to challenge the CA Demo trio , you guys have zero credibility. It's hard to believe the Reagan was a Ca Republican when you take into consideration what wusses the rest of the Ca Republicans are.

That's pretty much it.

I remember when this first got attention. All the loyal conservatives were screaming and laughing at our lousy politicians and phony deregulation and wouldn't hear a word about corporate fraud.

Yeah but that's what Loyal Conservatives are supposed to do. Detract from the truth with their bluster.

Enron's part in this according to the New York Times:

The report mentions the role of Enron Corporation only in passing, noting that federal officials had found that its energy trading strategies contributed to California's energy woes and might have been an effort to manipulate prices.

Enron, employing a variety of trading schemes known by such names as Death Star, Fat Boy and Get Shorty, tried to "game" the state's power grid to make quick trading profits, according to internal company documents.

"Thus, the potential for simultaneous withholding and gaming (including strategies not yet revealed) is very serious," the report stated, "and probably accounts for a large part of the rapid increase in costs in California during the crisis."

Kinda sucks that these energy companies were taking advantage of the most wealthiest state in the nation.

True but energy traders and generators spent more time trying to make a buck than providing timely, sufficient electricity. The CA deregulation plan was just plain stupid for assuming business would act in the best interests of the consumer. But leg' and prior gov couldn't have predicted the total lack of shame or honor in energy markets.

Hell, even the publicly owned facilities gouged the state.

This is from the very state commission that would go to just about any length to avoid revealing its own incompetence and contributions to California's energy crisis by continually pandering to environuts for the last 25 years. What else are they going to say? "Yeah, we were partly at fault, your hopelessly inept public servants...sorry about that"? Hell no!

Another story: California Energy Crisis A Sham.
But CBS News obtained records showing federal regulators have power plant control room audio tapes that prove traders from Williams Energy called plant operators and told them to turn off the juice. The government sealed the tapes in a secret settlement and still refuses to release them.
Playin' games while Californicators suffer. Things that make you go, "Hmmmm"?
