Didn't we just go through this with blaster and its variants?
Hopefully this patch will get out quick enough to prevent a repeat of that incident. Tell your friends and family to patch ASAP, and guide them through it if needed.

Post to all the forums you know of - everybody needs to patch ASAP! Perhaps somebody should post in the other AT forums for people that don't frequent OT. Hot Deals would be a good place to start. Mods, is it OK if I crosspost?

Does anyone know what time of day widows update downloads the updates when you have "download the updates automatically and notify me when they are ready to be installed" checked? It didnt download this patch yet.

I am wondering if I should check "automaticaly download the updates and install them on the scedule I specify" one. The problem is I want to review and know what is being installed.

stupid windows.... I really get fed up with it. And the problem is, you cannot let Windows Update, update your computer cuz it can fsck up your installation.

What really annoys me is that if you have a PC with a dialup connection to the 'net, you're pretty much stuck downloading bloated 'fixes' and patches every freakin' few days. With broadband, it doesn't really matter, you can just let it do the updates in the middle of the night if you want.

I don't understand why MS doesn't simply allow you to download a 'rollup' of all patches and fixes at a certain point in time (in the form of an EXE). That way, someone with broadband could download the big EXE, put it on a CD, and hand it to someone on dialup so they can go home and patch their system with the latest.

Grrrr.... this "patch it every week when a new flaw is found" is getting very very annoying! :|

They're called service packs.

Yeah but SP1/SP2 for Windows XP won't save you from Blaster, etc.

No, service packs only come out every 6 months or something, that's waaaaay too long to wait for a patch of numerous holes in the OS. You should just be able to go to their update site, click on "download all up to date fixes/patches" and get everything current at any time. That would also make it easier for corporate customers. Right now corporate customers are having a devil of a time keeping all stations patched, even using software like SMS and other automatic delivery mechanisms.

The other 30000 machines behind the firewall. 🙂

There's 30000 machines behind my home firewall? No wonder my download speeds choke. 😛

That and people on VPN/Dial-up to your network.

My oompa-loompas have been dispatched and are working dilligently.
The last worm was hardly a blip on the radar. The next one isn't even going to affect us.
