New receiver doesn't sound right. Am I doing something wrong?

I know some of the onkyo tx-nr7xx series had a problem with the 40 pin cables baking inside of them. Apparently they used too cheap of a ide cable. Apparently its not a hard fix if you pop it open. I picked up one of the refurbs with the better cable already installed.

Ya Onkyo + Heat isn't a good idea. I think a lot of it has to do with where people place their receivers. Like I said, my boy placed his receiver in a spot with no airflow and had a baking issue. I have my receiver in a spot with airflow, never an issue. Now, I don't have as good airflow, but my receiver doesn't do heavy work, the amp does. Still though, just in case I've been cutting apart the back of my TV Stand to allow more air to pass.
