new Ram

I wanna get some more ram(1gb) so i have 2gb ram in total. Does it matter what kind of DDR2 ram i get? Now i own 2x512 DDR 400

If by "kind" you mean brand, no not really. Some are known as more stable, or better at overclocking, but pretty much all of it works. If by "kind" you mean specs, then yes. I would stick with duplicating what you already have into the other two slots.

Thats not really even an issue.
Unless you are using top of the line bleeding egde ram!!
O have 2 gigs of DDR ram in my system....using 3 sticks of ram.
2 x 512 and 1 stick of Muskin value 1 gig memory!!
So its not really even an issue!!

If there was an issue it would be most likely compatability issues that exist between some ram and mobo`s!!

I just meant that if he needs DDR400 he should get more DDR400. As to mixing 512s with 1g, doesn't that keep you from running dual channel?

Sisoft sandra says I am in dual mode on the computer thast has my ram configured that way!!

What's with you using exclamation marks like you're yelling at people?

Anyway it does matter what kind of memory you get if you are doing any kind of overclocking. If not, then it won't make any difference at all. Although if you mix DDR400 with DDR266 your DDR400 will default to 266 unless you attempt to run your 266 at 40 which is overclocking.

I would still try to keep the same specs.

It's best to get matchin pairs if possible to eliminate any of the "might be and issue" stuff.

The safe bet would be to match your new RAm with your old RAM.
