Solved the NIC prob...now how do i share the internet with my bro...I used the WInXP sharing util and got no dice...any help?

winxp ONLY recognizes pnp devices. unless your isa nic has a setting for pnp (the ones ive seen had jumpers for the irq, then pnp) you can't use it.

so check the jumpers on the nic.. if you don't see pnp, might as well toss it back in the box 😉

yes, positive the card works, i just pulled it from an old system to be able network and share the internet with my bro's laptop...

My 56k Modemworks and it's ISA, though it is PnP....dang it, I'll check in the morning if it is PNP...

trust me, i went through this about 2 months ago with some 3com nics.. took me like 2 days to find the problem. if it doesnt have pnp, youre wasting your time with it. xp removed support for non pnp devices to help stabilize the system (avoiding irq conflicts).

so does it have pnp?

Damn it, I'll just have to check in the morning if it is PnP...I'm going to bed...thanks for the help, pamf...

I have a USB-Network adapter...would that work better...got it in the same Dell deal as the NIC i'm currently using...I think I'll do that....

Using the USB-Ethernet adapter, and the file sharing works just fine! New question...how do you share the internet! I've got MSN DSL with an external modem....Tried the WinXP internet sharing utility, and get no dice...any help?

Easiest way to share broadband is just to go out and buy a router.. you can get 'em pretty cheap now. Basically no fuss set up. You can do it by running the DSL modem into one of your computers, then having a second NIC to network the second computer with. I'm not familiar with XP tho, so I can't help you there. Sorry.
