Anyone think that chaging the BIOS on the SCSI card (29160) is a lost cause and do not bother or should I give it a wack? A few have PM'd me saying it (flashing BIOS) will not make a difference and that the Drive is faulty.

what you all think???b

i would run a benchmark first, and make sure it really is running in SE mode before proceeding with bios flashing and or RMA'ing.

have you got the cable on the 68 pin alone side. By this I mean not the side with the combination 50/68 pin side. That may be it. Also my roommate has a Quantum here think its a Atlas 10k II it has one jumper on it cant remember which one.

Just shoot me if I am wrong

I couldn't get my X15 detected and running in anything but narrow SCSI till I flashed the BIOS on my LSI card. Bios updates are a good idea.

BTW in WinXP unless I'm mistaken when you format a disk in WinXP you can toggle it to be a win98 bootable disk.

I have the Adaptec 29160 card. Which connector on the card are you using? One of the connectors is U160 LVD, the other is SE only. Try connecting your LVD cable to the other connector. Also, if your LVD cable is U160, it should be pink. Is it?
