Got my 9550 and tested it out. Before I even booted into windows I went straight for the bios to push it up a bit. I just changed the FSB from 333 to 400, giving me 3.4 out of the box. It was prime95 stable for a good 2 hours and change. idle 33c and 46c under load. I'm running an asus p5k premium and a custom water setup.

Wow! You must know somebody:thumbsup:

I'm very interested to know what the max FSB is on these, I've seen 478 but that was with exotic cooling.

If you happen to get a chance to test either Nero Vision or Xilisoft video converter I'd be very interested in your opinion on performance.

Is that where you ordered yours? Never heard of them before.

Edit: Not so good reviews on ResellerRating, looks like the sold engineering samples described as OEMs. Although they don't have OEM in the description for the Q9550.

yes, that is where i got mine. i was a bit skeptical when i got mine and it was in a core2duo box sealed with box tape & rubber bands around the inside to hold everything together. after getting it in and setup, it was legit. guess i should have researched it a bit more that it was OEM.

Kinda makes you wonder who was the previous owner and just how brutal were they with your chip before deciding it was time to pass it along...

its not OEM, they sold you an engineering sample, which is illegal, and you have no warranty at all

at $580, you sure got a good deal

But overclocking voids your warranty. So what difference does it make?

Has anyone ever used a warranty on a CPU (serious question)?

I have had around 50 CPU's in my PC lifetime and have never had a CPU fail. There's always a chance but it seems slim to me. Enjoy your Q9550 and may it live long and prosper!!! :D

I have had use for them 4 times, all 4 were Athlon XP's that died, not due to physical damage, they worked for 3 -4 years, and just died, no overclocking, no fan afailure, and had aftermarket heatsinks. AMD said they were older than 3 years (I had no receipts)

I routinely use my laptop for posting to the forums and surfing the web...it's a vintage 2002 laptop with a P3 800MHz.

I get a kick every time it posts and I see that "512KB L2 Cache"...same as a modern day CPU from AMD! How far we have come in 6 years.

It's not illegal. There's no law on the books that I am aware of that legally prohibits selling a CPU marked "Engineering sample".

Sure, it might violate the agreement that the previous owner had with Intel, but that's not the same thing as violating the law.

Just a pet peeve of mine when people claim things are illegal, when they really aren't.

Corporations don't make laws. (Not yet, anyway. At least not directly.)

its also a pet peeve of mine when people don't think before they speak

the chip is property of intel, it was loaned (key word here) not gifted to someone for testing/reviewing.

he/she decides to sell it for profit instead of returning it to its rightful owner. what the hell do you call that?

are you going to be a wise ass and tell me its *immoral* not illegal? see how far that gets you in court in front of a jury.

PS. like you said, they have a signed agreement, they can prove that you stole property from them because you never returned it. I believe stealing is a criminal offense, correct?

Well, isn't the part number on that site for the OEM? If they are advertising the OEM, you should have gotten an OEM, otherwise you should be able to get your money back.
