new Q6600

i just finished my first build yesterday, and once i finished setting it up i ran AI Suite which came with the motherboard (P5K Deluxe), and it tells me that my Q6600 is only running at 1.6Ghz (267x6)

does anybody know why its only running at 1.6? is this just because its idle and it drops down on its own?

With speedstep enabled in the BIOS, it automatically turns the multiplier from 9 to 6 when the CPU is idle.

If you want that to stop, just disable intel speedstep technology in the BIOS. That will fix the problem.

I wouldn't though. It kicks up the multiplier when you need the power, but when you don't, you save money on electricity (probably less than $100/year, but hey...)

Speedstep is nice: it lowers my idle temps considerably. There's no reason to pump maximum juice to your cpu if you're just web browsing, for instance.

ok thanks guys

i was just wondering if it was something i had to change manually, cause this is my first time

i got a question
i leave my workstation on 24/7/365 and i use it for downloading serving files for myself when i am remote. anyhow, i moved from a E6300 Allendale to a Q6600. Will I see an increase in the electricity bill (maybe a minimal increase?)

considering the amount of usage and idle/busy times are the same, and I have speedstep turned on.
