New PSU - Won't Power Up

I just installed my new 430W Altrec PSU, but cannot get my MoBo to fire up. I connected the power cable to the board and also hooked up the cpu fan cable. When I turn on the switch on the case nothing happens, the PSU doesn't start nor do any of the components. The MoBo does have power though because the LED is on. What could it be?

I had to replace the PSU because my computer would inadvertently shutoff. When troubleshooting I just hooked it directly the AC outlet and started it quicky and it made some wierds noises and was fried (smelt real bad). The PSU was likely bad, but these seems re-affirm my thoughts. Could this have damaged anything else besides the PSU?

Thanks.

SPECS:
AMD 1.33 CPU

If there's a power switch on the PSU make sure it's on. Not to insult your intelligence but once in monkeying around my system I hit the switch (will moving it to the work table) installed a sound card and started swearing because it wouldn't power on. 30 minutes later I looked at the PSU and noticed it was switched off.

Hmm, rereading you post, try reseating things (ie vid card etc). It's possible you knocked something loose when you installed the PSU.

"Not to insult your intelligence".... don't worry, I'm sure it is because of my junior member status :) Yes, the switch is turned on (|). I'll try reseating things tonight. I wasn't to violent when swapping out PSU's though.

I'm also going to try to cross the power switch on the Mobo with a screwdriver to make sure that the case power switch isn't bad. Just an idea. Right now my ideas are running thin. I might try the PSU on a different computer of mine too, just to make sure it works.

You can try shorting the green and black wire of the PSU's mobo header and see if it powers on.

Ok. I'll give that a shot. The fan spins on both the CPU and the chipset fan. I tried a entirely different PSU and it didn't work either. But my new PSU worked on a different machine.

I did end up buying a new A7N8X and a 2500XP barton CPU. But I hate to see a nice A7M266 go to waste.

Do you have a different PSU you can try in this machine?

Have you reset the bios?

It is quite possible you could have fried things.

Yes. First I tried my new 430W Altrec PSU and then a backup PSU I had lying around.

As far as reseting my bios, how can I do this if my computer doesn't even power up?

I guess I should say CMOS. There should be a jumper on your motherboard that you will have to move 1 pin over. Instructions on how to do it should be in your mobo manual. You can probably find them on Asus website if you don't have the manual. Resetting it is a good idea any time any hardware is moved or changed.

Do you have any fans connected to your motherboard fan headers? If the fan is drawing too much power, your motherboard may not be able to handle it and will not boot up.
