New PS3?

Sounds like a decent increase in value over the 80GB. 120 GB is enough room for most people to keep their mp3 collection on it and not bother with streaming music (just their movies), and dual-shock will bring rumble back to PS3 and PS2 games.

I know some existing PS3 games like Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted already have rumble support, others might see it added with patches.

this one makes sense. they are dropping the 80gb, making a larger version to outdo the 360 Elite... and an excuse to create a new bundle to include the DualShock 3 with.

I bet we'll see 160gb+ Black PS3 w/DS3 for 499
and the 40gb's will cost 299, with the white PS3 including a DS3.

You think they'd drop the price? They're probably still losing at least $100 apiece on the 40 GB.

I read somewhere (too lazy to google) that they're almost breaking even on the 40GB at $399 thanks to the blu drive cost dropping, the 65nm die-shrink CPU, no PS2 'GS' chip*, and a simplified motherboard with fewer ports.

* no, I never have found an official Sony statement that the 80GB includes this :) :(

At $299 they'd be back to losing $100 each, but that might be worth it to drive a stake through HD-DVD and to bring US sales above the current 2/3 of xbox sales.

Only if Microsoft and Nintendo didn't take similar price cuts. And, historically, they have.

Nintendo won't cut the price until they're able to keep them on store shelves for more than an hour. ;)

Who wants to bet that any new PS3 model will not have backwards compatibility?

If it does, and it's ~$400, and it comes with a controller that rumbles, I may be on board. Until then, there's no point.

This feature may very well appeal to others, but keeping my music organized on my PC that is already on 24/7 takes up enough time. I'd rather not have the added step of transferring individual files over to my console every time I download a new track.

Unless someone develops an excellent syncing program (or one already exists), storing music on my console as opposed to streaming would result in more annoyances than cheers of joy.

So true :) Amazing to think that over a year after release, finding one is still hit or miss. I can't think of anything that has been a hot item for so long.
