I'm a devoted xbmc users and was hoping that the ps3 would serve as an upgrade to play the x264 files on my hdtv.

I've heard of tversity but is there a "cleaner" way instead of installing programs?

Is there something similar to xbmc's way of playing music and having milkdrops running?

TIA!

I have a NAS with a uPNP media sever built in, but I'm having trouble with what codecs I should be using. I have tried encoding to divx, but it's still coming up as unsupported format.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Is there anything like Medialink but for PC's? Its made by Nullriver. I use medialink on my Macbook and it integrates amazingly well with streaming for the PS3. It integrates directly with my iLife apps (iPhoto/Aperture/iTunes libraries) and they all show up on my PS3 without needing to do a thing, works like a charm and since its fully integrated, everything is always the same as it is on my computer with all updated files, titles, albums, etc.

I just have TVersity. For transcoding, I use ffdshow. It COULD be as simple as just downloading the latest version and installing it. I had some issues though because I was already using ffdshow for other things. Anyway, there were some video on Youtube on how to install both TVersity and ffdshow and get it to work. I can't look right now because I'm at work. You'll know ffdshow is working if you can drag files into TVersity on your computer and TVersity will play them.

I don't know of any way of getting milkdrops to play on the PS3. I actually still use xbmc for playing music and streaming DVD's. The PS3 can't seem to play music gaplessly, especially with transcoded stuff (like FLAC files). XBMC plays those effortlessly.

I use TVersity as well, but I don't use it for any transcoding. I also haven't run into any problems with DIVX files, but I don't watch that many. I mostly watch remuxed/transcoded MKVs. MKV2VOB is the program you want to use if you need to convert any MKVs.

TVersity never worked for me. I can just have it stream over a divx w/ no transcoding and it would still crash.

WHS box using WMP11 to stream to my PS3 (Wireless G works fine :p)

Tversity would not work, it would take 30 secs to load a video and after that you could not rewind or fast forward and transcoding was disabled.
