New PS3 160GB, no blue light?

I just purchased a brand new PS3 slim 160GB. I don't know if it's normal, but there is no blue light by the disk drive, you know, the blue light that comes on when a disc is installed. Was this removed recently? The manufacture date is July 2011. I see that other PS3 slims have the blue light, but mine doesn't, and I don't think it's defective because there is no "dot" if you will for the blue light. For the red/green power button there is a noticable "dot" where it light's up, but not so for where the disc drive is, it's smooth across with no light visable. So now I'm thinking that sony must have removed it. It also appears that the lights on the round buttons are gone as well.

Here's a video I found on youtube showing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQ3YDF29ezA the same thing, I highly doubt both consoles are defective, as the user in that video seems to believe his is defective.

Can anyone else confirm?

No blue light on my PlayStation 3. Just the red/green power button and whatever lights that are under the lip that I can't see.

Your PS3 is not defective. The newer ps3 systems do not have the blue LED indicator light. I have no idea why Sony removed it. But your system is fine.

I have to say Sony is trying to cut corners everywhere and save a buck. Although nice, this new system doesn't have near the quality feel of my older fat PS3.

I got a 3001A too, at first I was turned off by the reports of an 80mm fan, but Gamestop didn't have any 2501A, and they gave me $15 off for computer troubles that had me waiting about 30 minutes, so I just went ahead and kept it.

I like the lack of LED's, there's still a power status light and a HDD indicator light. I don't even hook these up in my PC's, they annoy me. The case doesn't make the popping plastic sound my 120gb did, and the 200 watt PSU only gets lukewarm, much cooler to the touch than the 120gb, never felt a 2501A though. 80mm fan isn't that loud either, probably a little more audible than the 120mm in a 2501A, unfortunately never had one to compare it to. It's definitely quieter than the 120gb (although that one is a few years old and probably has a bit of dust built up), and I like the minimalist design, glossy finishes piss me off.

They removed it because that f***ing blue light was most freaking annoying! Especially at night! 🙂
