Sunday night my Tiger MP locked up on my for the first time. Every since then my machine had been restarting when it wants and sometimes refuses to load the OS. I thought I had if fixed until last night when it locked up again. I restarted and it wouldn't load windows. I got the the starting windows screen and would lock up. If I choose safe mode if wouldn't even get to the windows starting screen. I took all of my pci cards out and still had the same problem. I worked on it for 6 hours and got nowhere.

I finally got back into the OS(it just suddenly worked ) and saved thing from my main drive to my data drive and decided that I would try to re install/repair windows. After a repair of window I could get in windows but it would just lock up after a few minutes. Even after I took everything out of my startup.

@3am last night I decided on my course of action. Format/reinstall. I could use my backup tape but the tape snapped when i tried to back on saturday.

I formatted and reinstalled windows. But after the initial install - where you enter your product key and you restart and load windows for the first time windows wouldn't load I get to the windows 2000 starting... and I get nothing.

I have removed all hardware except one cd-rom one hd and my agp graphics card. And after the last reinstall I can't even get to the second part of the windows install where you enter the product key.

I have had this board for a month and half now and I now wish I never bought it. Its great if it works but getting it to work is the trick.

Any ideas. I plan to take the board out of the case and try it that way but I don't think it would only lock up there if it was a short.

What version of the Tiger do you have? Rev1 board has lots of problems and was tricky to get working (then it stopped working after 2 weeks), Rev3 board (1.03) installed easily without a hitch... although if your board is 6 weeks old I guess you can't RMA it with your vendor anymore, but maybe Tyan?

Ya with one stick of ram I finally got it to work. I think all my computer problems are ram related. The Kingston in my current PC is on it way out. I have had may to many problems with it.

The Kingston 512MB ECC modules would be my choice as the culprit.

Crucial is still the best. Some have reported issues with them, Tyan claims there is a problem with Crucial's RAM (and vice-versa), but I've had 100% success with them on several TigerMP revisions, with all 4 banks populated nonetheless.

get real registered ram and you should have no more problems :)

I had the REV 1.03 board, and didn't have any issues at all with ECC/REGISTERED CORSAIRS (512 MB) single sided dimms (had two of them installed)..

Most likely, you are using unbuffered ram on the board.
