New (?) problem with A8N-SLI

Not exactly the kind of thing that inspires you with confidence. I think I'll be moving away from ASUS and RMA'ing my boards.
 
What are you talking? I take the Asus message as thoughtful and thorough. You would expect that routine to check for problems with any board.

I RMAed my a8n-sli board with Asus without much problem or delay. And the new one works w/o any problem. My old one died probably because I shorted something by not putting washer on the board. So I believe that 99% problems are caused by users not the board.
 
Thanks for that. I've had two boards from ASUS, one didnt work, the other one caught fire. So as mentioned previously, it doesnt inspire me with confidence and I'll be RMA'ing my boards....

(configuration: main PS is connected, 12v 4 pin connector is connected,

then turn off. motherboard LED is green. speakers don't say a word.

tried different power supply (350 watts), but no go.

the power supply works ok with a different (older) motherboard.
i don't have another MB to test CPU & memory.

suggestions?


FINALLY got a new board via RMA. i assembled the system over the weekend
& it's working great, so far (crosses-fingers).

I also got a DOA a8n-sli . I ordered it on Feb 28 & rma'd it back to ZZF, I might see a return in 2 weeks.

I talked to Asus tech support and the most basic thing you could do is test the mobo outside the case w/ only a cpu & speaker plugged in.

The speach reporter is enabled by default, so in my case the mobo was dead, not even a memory not installed error. I did test my cpu in a DFI mobo and it worked fine.

BTW where did you get you mobo ?? I think so far 2 ppl got a DOA from ZZF..

From now on I won't deal w/ a vendor who refuse's returns or refunds. It's crazy to have to put up w/ crap like this. Pay for a product and wait 4 - 6 weeks for it to work .....

i got mine from Axent Micro - i have no complaint about them,
except their 7 day return policy seems way too short - i ordered
other parts from different vendors & didn't have a complete system that
i could assemble until after the 7 day period, & so i had to
deal with ASUS directly.

OTOH, after this experience i decided that paying a vendor to burn-in
as many parts as possible is a good investment.

or maybe i should've got a Dell?😉
 
You need to remove the VGA card and the EZ selector card then reset CMOS. It worked on my A8N deluxe.
