NEW Problem, No video!! help! Computer won't start

ok, i installed a new board. But the damn thing won't stay on. It will power on for 1sec then immediately shut off. I have the MSI KN8 neo board.

Please help! Don't want to have to make another trips to Fry's to exchange for a new board!

You may have a short. Sounds like perhaps you have a mobo standoff touching the board. Completely remove the mobo from the case and try running it. Make sure you take precautions against static when you do this.

Hmm, i'll check the heat sink, again. Thanks

I care. This forum is for bad jokes, religious discussion, thinly veiled homoerotic encounters, music discussion, and so forth.

I WAS going to post something useful but I can see you're a tool.

ok, checked the heatsink. it is secured. Still won't turn on.

So, I have to remove everything...and put it back again.

I have 1 mobo standoff missing, is that ok?

hall monitors..gotta love em. but like they said first thing would be the heatsink...second would be a short/improperly connected atx cable. Third would be removing a ram stick one at a time if you got 2. lastly bad mobo/ps. try switchin between known good parts if you have that luxury.

I hate it when my thinly veiled homoerotic encounters get interrupted by computer talk. 🙁

Ya know, the tech support forum wouldn't BE slow to respond if people would stop posting in the wrong feckin forum. It would all be organized instead of scattered and people could go right where they want to go to get support - and they'd have it!

alright, do u understand how frustrating it is for the damn thing not to power up when a ton of work has been done to assemble it? The biggest problem is i don't know wha the problem is and i might need to return the board or whatever.

I just don't see what the big deal is about posting to the right board.

Sub, will ya just do what I said. I am trying to help you unlike certain others.

#1: wrong forum.
#2: is it beeping?
#3: is there smoke coming out of it?

try booting it up with nothing but the essentials (ie: no drives, no pci cards, no graphics card if you have on-board video, etc)

Why do you think individually separated boards even exist in the first place? I think it's safe to assume that everybody here knows exactly WTF you mean when you say how frustrated you are. Everyone's had trouble with software, and most of us have the knowledge to delve into hardware -which is almost guaranteed to have experienced problems, many just like this. The reason you post at AT is probably because you know there are people here with answers, right? If we have the answers, it's probably because we've been exactly where you're at and found a way to fix it or asked someone else for an answer while being just as frustrated.

It's all good. Just post in the correct forum and you won't get so much flak. 🙂
