just got a new cannon pixma 6600D printer
usb2 connection direct to comp no hub in between
i have a usb2 hub but not hooked to the printer
latest drivers are loaded
comp clean of virus / spyware /maleware /rootkits/ ect ect
comp is patched /updated / firewall /router/ect ect

heres the problem

if i leave the printer ON and try to start up my comp it goes to the bios logo screen and just STOPS total lockup
BUT
if the printer is OFF the comp starts up normal - zero issues

no other issues except the startup thing

i have tried differt usb ports / with/without a hub / cables
all have made no difference with the startup issue
only one printer driver for this model so i cant try different drivers
besides i dont think its a driver problem
and no firmware updates for it either

i have similar problems with printers, especially if they have built in memory card hubs. sometimes it fixes to move to another usb port but sometimes not. i would suggest (just for fun) buying a powered usb hub and plugging the printer into that. might help. if not u can always return the hub.

on an off chance, it might be your power supply not giving enough juice to your usb ports. how many devices to u have plugged in? have u tried unplugging everything except keyboard and printer and booting up?

there is also some bios tweaks you can do to stop the computer from loading the usb device on bootup...not sure how to on ur mobo, sry.

last note: i was having this problem but then i loaded the bios defaults and it cleared it up. try that as well.

The only possible thing I can think of is for some reason your computer is trying to boot from the memory card readers on your printer. In the BIOS there should be a boot option regarding booting from USB devices. Try disabling that and see if it resolve your problem

My wife got an HP for X-Mas and it had this problem. The fix was a BIOS update from HP.

checked out the bios
nothing there that would cause it to trey to boot from the printers memory hub

might have to just wait for a firmware update on the printer

Are you sure the printer port settings/parameters are correctly configured in the BIOS ? Try setting them to various combinations and see if this makes a difference.

Good luck.
