I'm running an ancient HP Deskjet 612C that barely prints. It's slown down, makes horribly loud noices, and won't print in color.

Any recommendations for printers?

I have one in my for sale thread. I will split up the bundle. Give me an offer.

By the way is the HP Photosmart 7760. PcMag's editors choice.

Whaddaya wanna do wit it?

Do you want just general purpose, cheap, home color printing?
Do you want to make a long-lasting photo album for the years to come?
Do you want to print out a couple hundred pages a day, color irrelevant?

What?

Yes, your needs are definitely a big thing here.

Personally, I like networked printers, but I'm not sure what your price range is - you're generally at $150 for one of those.

If you can take mediocre printed output, perhaps one of the current generation Brother AIOs as they are the least hassle for now - unchipped, passive, separate ink tanks. For top quality output, but with chipped tank hassles, then the Canon iP4300 would be hard to beat. More new Canon models should be out shortly - it seems that every time I go to the Canon site lately there is something new there. It looks like the iP4300 will be replaced as I only find them at a few locations using froogle or pricegrabber. Frys.com has some refurbs and eBay has some at good prices.

I print on CDs & DVDs, so it's an Epson model for me. Besides printing on media, the ink refills are cheap off of ebay.

You can mod the US version of the 4300 to print disks - one of the parts are listed with the printers on eBay. the euro versions come with it as standard - some kind of patent issue here.

True about the mod ... I had researched it a while back

I just found the link for the mod:
