I had a lot of fun with the originals, but somehow the new one looks like they dumbed-down the gameplay and added a lot of fluff. I was excited about Assasin's Creed but couldn't get into it with the "free-form" wall climbing and jumping, it took the skill out of the platforming element and I couldn't stay interested enough to finish it.

Anyone with hands-on experience have an opinion?

What I've read is that the game is what we see nowadays...looks great, good combat, fun but it is dumbed down mostly for traditional gamers not hardcore; making the game easy in combat and puzzles and makes the story simplistic.

here it is compared to sands of time which is a great game

Most games today focus on the selling points which are the scenery, artistic design and special effects. The games like Sands of Time, Planescape, Longest Journey, etc. were deep involved games that looked decent at that time but its was the feel of the game that was so good. The music and story are so important to give you a better connection with the game you are playing. Although watching the commercials for POP I like the musical style of the game and I probably will purchase it

the sands of time is probably the best game Ive ever played. Nothing can compare to the sands in my mind. But I still want to give this new game a try. I still havent played thru the sequel to the sands though

Well - i didn't love sands of time (on pc). It was ok but had serious camera problems and a bit of a headache with controls. The problem with camera is if you went into a corridor (and there were a lot of those) you lost your view; which was quite painful if you had to time a jump or duck...

Good comparison, thanks!

@DukeFan21: If I had a console, I would probably get it for console - this is based on the majority of games coming out these days being ported from console, you rarely find any bugs in high-profile xbx or ps3 games. Since I don't have a console I'll be playing on my PC cloned to my 42" hdtv - games like this are much better with a controller vs. mkb.

Its definitely different than the previous trilogy, but its a really good game all the same. The combat is simplistic, let somewhat complex at the same ttime. Also, there isnn't nearly as much combat as in the previous games either, which is ok.

I'm probably around 3/4 of the way through it at this point, and am still enjoying playing it, which is more than I can say for a number of games I've eplayed lately.

How long is the game? The review made it sound very simplistic (few puzzles; can't die) so either you like the story or you don't...

I'm waiting to see how well it runs on a PC.

If my rig will be able to do 30+ min FPS at 1920x1080 AAx4 AFx16 I'm gonna get it for the PC. If min FPS will tank, I'll just grab the Xbox version (and pay 70% more...).

Either way, can't wait!
