Everyone is praising Macs, but I don't like them. They're not compatible and I wouldn't want even a 5K Mac even if I could get it for free. I don't have any use for it. I heard a remarkable feature of Macs used to be that you could turn it on pressing a special keyboard button, while to turn on a Pentium you had to press a big switch, it was so hard to press, he-he. It's not an issue with today PCs as you can assign any button to turn it on, and there's a plenty of keyboards with on/off buttons as well.

Compatible with what? I am not a Mac zealot, but I know that arguement is very dated.

What are you referring to exactly?

Between equivalent versions of applications, i.e. Word v.X and Word XP, I can tell you that there is no problem using and editing files back and forth between platforms. I used to have problems with ChemDraw (I'm a chemist), but even those have been fixed in the latest versions.

The main problem with Macs, other than slow G4s, is in the game market. At least companies like Blizzard release games for the Mac and PC simulatneously, which is nice. ;)

This kind of statement is extra-stupid... you COULD sell the PM if was given to you, maybe even try it out first...

Compatiable with what? whith pc HW.. it is... with mac progs? it is... with XP well, thank god, it isn't...

It IS a great machine, the PC of the same price would be much better, but that doesn't mean that it is bad.... OS's? well, linux, xBSD, osX... and thankfully, not windows...

BareFeats has a benchmark, testing the SDRAM-based dual G4 at 1Ghz with the new DDR PC2100 ones. The new PowerMacs are the same or slower than their previous models, the test reveals. The Mac community got a bit dissapointed (judging from the forums). The author says that the slowdown is because the two processors share a 1GB/s pipe to Apple's custom AGP/Memory controller. While the shared bandwidth is a factor, it is not the reason that makes the new Macs slower. Having a better look at the specs, show that the author have forgot a very important detail

Yes, the important detail being that the new dual-1Ghz Macs have only 1MB per CPU of L3 cache, whereas the old ones have 2MB per CPU. The upcoming (and expensive) 1.25 Ghz model will retain the 2MB of L3 cache, so it'll be interesting to see what happens there. However, while I would like to own a Mac (for some crazy reason..), I will wait until (1) they up the controller bandwidth and (2) go with the Power4 design.

Here's an excellent article from ArsTechnica on caching and why it's important.

actually these new system are junk.

apple reduced the L2 cache from 2mb to 1mb on the chips. so the new ddr duals, are slower than a same speed sdram based dual system.

Hmm, looks like Desslock took my earlier comments a little too personally. He's obviously a very little man and had to attack me personally via PM. Here's what he said:

Wow what a strong argument to buy an Apple. You can always add a multi button mouse. If I am spending 5k on a system it better come with a damn multi button mouse. Now who is the Idiot here? a person that buys a mac or a person that build his/her own pc and gets twice as much for the money. Hell you could even get a Dell if you are a newbie and pay 800 and get a 2.0 Northwood P4. Does Apple even have anything that can touch a P4 in the everyday world? Don't think so.

You're absolutely right. Afterall, if I had $5000 to spend on a Mac, I surely couldn't afford a $25 USB mouse...
Now who is the Idiot here?
Well, it's obviously the person with the biased views here.... and it's not me :)

I'm not going to bother arguing with the rest of your comments. I don't know why you even bothered to type that stuff. It's all been covered before in the 6000 Mac vs PC threads. Hey, don't take my comments so personally either. I'm just trying to stop the spread of misinformation you biased slut. I'm about as unbiased as you can get (Win2K PC user here..).

Chill out, dude.
