Of course he isnt silly, all we need to do is allow the debt ceiling to be raised even higher like he wants. Those damn republicans are the ones stopping him......bastards.

How dare the President want to actually pay back the money that Republicans in Congress voted to spend.

Ah so you don't believe the US should be paying our bills.

The debt ceiling allows the US to pay for things Congress already bought.

You did know that right?

Repubs can depend on short term memories only among the faithful, who'll believe anything, accept complete reversals as if they never happened.

They pandered, postured, bullied & extorted their way into an untenable position wrt the Bush tax cuts & the austerity bomb, so they'll now have to pay the price. Dems need do nothing for Repubs to drop to the end of their own rope. Just stand back & smile.

If Repubs actually wanted to offer solutions, they would, but apparently they'd rather keep playing games like McConnell filibustering his own virgin bill 5 minutes after introducing it...

W0rd!

And the beauty of it is that the GOP is getting the blame.

Sweet!

This is really interesting, it as if the American people just don't care about the logistics of getting us financially secure, they just want their stuff and the rich to pay without realizing the rich even if taxed more won't cover the bill....makes me think to all of those articles on consumer credit and their not understanding basic finance, or my family who feel just because others have expensive stuff that they are entitled to it even if their salary isn't as accommodating and they charge shit up to the moon.

I think the GOP should just let it go down the tubes, let us go over the cliff and try and do a better job about pointing the finger at the dems realizing that they won't get their message across given the media spin.

Agreed, I think everyone misses that point about the debt ceiling. Its not about future spending its about past money spent. Since when has it been called patriotic to not pay your debts?

how do you pay back a debt by talking out more debt.

You don't. OTOH, all the fiat dollars in existence were created by deficit spending & fractional reserve lending, while interest paid is compensation to wealth holders for dilution of value of dollars they hold.

The US govt doesn't really need to borrow, at all. It's a holdover from the Gold Standard & a sop to the Wealthy. The govt can acquire whatever funds are necessary through taxes & seignorage, the printing of coins. The Treasury could make a $1T platinum coin the size of a dime, deposit it with the FRB, and write checks against it in a perfectly legal fashion.

The Treasury can also create a collapsing option with the FRB. They could sell the option for $1T, or any amount, an option against future earning, and the FRB could sell it back at a later date for a penny.

The fact that Dems even entertain Repubs' bullshit wrt the Debt Ceiling shows that they're serious & mindful about it all in a very conventional way, that they want real answers. That can't be said for Repubs, who just preen & posture on their so-called "principles" while offering nothing concrete at all. They're the party of no ideas, just empty bluster-

The Democrats are not holding the countries credit rating hostage.

It's because of who they truly represent, the Uber-Wealthy, who aren't terribly happy with the very low interest currently paid on US govt securities. They own the debt, because it's the safest investment in the world, but they think they should have safety & higher returns all at the same time. If their Congressional lackeys can force a credit downgrade, a real one, Voila! Higher returns. Money for nothing.

Which is why governor walker was reelected twice in two hers? Which is why republicans regained control of the Wisconsin senate?

If republicans are so hated, then they should not agree to any of Obama crappy deals. What do they have to lose?

Why agree to a huge tax increase when it also includes huge spending increases?

Obama has given them two bad choices, take a terrible deal, or the Obama msm will blame you for the crash.

Amazing that Obama not compromising is somehow now ok, after years of the liberals crying that republicans should compromise.

compromise is not in agenda just they just want to spend and keep spending. Ausm is a goon that has all day to post....... does he have a job or is he using his work internet?

I may just dig into this.....
