205hp/200lb torque? Nice. However, it needs to be competitively priced. If I was going for a cheap econorocket and had a gun to my head to choose b/t the two, I'd still take the SRT-4 though.

No, the production Solstice is starting out with a 170-hp NA version of the Ecotec. Pontiac has said that a forced-induction version will be coming later, but no one is certain if it will be supercharged or turbo or how much power it will make.

Compete in that class. No other car mentioned in that class (Focus SVT, Civic SI, and even a Spec-V to an extent) comes close to the SRT4 in terms of speed.

And the Cobalt looks 10x better than the damn Neon. Just need to ditch the wing.

Are you kidding? The Cobalt looks like a Cavalier nailed a Cougar. (Two craptastic cars to begin with) The interior for once for a GM vehicle looks nice, especially an econo car, but the only exterior cues I like about the Cobalt over the Neon is the rims. That's it.

Not to mention that GM is usually pretty lax on giving real times. I'm pretty sure once it hits the streets we'll be seeing people hit mid 14s.

That said, I think it looks nice, sans spoiler, and hope it does well.

If I'm smoking crack, we're getting high together, apparently. :p

To me it looks like it takes more from the current gen Civic than anything else. Honestly its pretty unique, but I'll wait to see production models.

I think it looks like a more streamlined Crapalier. Still looks like crap, especially with those taillights. The rims are the only saving grace on the car, and those are probably exclusive to the SS.

I like the A-pillar mounted boost gauge :). The rims are nice too.

Not a fan of the interior door handles, they look way too small. The back end of the car looks "fat", but that seems to be the trend with cars now. The wing looks cheesy.

I probably wouldn't buy one, but it looks like a fun small car.

The supercharged Ecotec devel-- ops 205 hp at 5600 rpm and 200 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm,

Not really very impressive.

We're talking supercharged here. Where's the beef?

Although, it does develop plenty of torque overall. It probably won't be too bad, but it's still not impressive. :p

That engine makes what, 160HP N/A? 40HP from a supercharger almost doesen't even seem worth it.

Although, the SC itself probably eats 20HP.. heh. Wonder why they didn't go turbo?

That's super weak. So, I guess the answer is no. GM is not getting serious about small car performance.

It's not that bad for a light 2-seater. The Miata is seen as the main competitor to the Solstice and it has only 142hp (except in the turbocharged Mazdaspeed version). The base BMW Z4 makes 184hp. Handling is more important in this type of car anyway.

I do think it's a bit lame that there will only be one engine choice for the Solstice initially, but let's not forget it is supposed to have a base price under $20K. Rumors of a 220, 250 or even 270hp engine are all over the place.

Meh - I have thought for the last few years that the Cavalier might be the least appealing car sold in the US, so I have a hard time having a lot of faith in its successor. I am not the target market for this kind of car, but to me the SRT-4 looks better (though that is highly subjective) and offers better performance.
