New phone won't read the numbers off my SIM card?

Hey guys,

I was using a Nokia 5300 with T-Mobile and long story short, it was a piece of junk (/end review). 4 phones in 5 months, the speakers and the mic kept going out on me.

Anyway, I bought a T-Mobile Wing (HTC Atlas) and when I threw my SIM card in it, it doesn't see any of the contacts I have stored there.

Am I correct in assuming I'm going to have to put my SIM back into my old phone, write down all 250 names and numbers, and re-enter everything manually?! Does this have anything to do with the fact that on the Wing they refer to contact entries as "Microsoft Outlook Contacts", so maybe they have a different format or something? I would like a second opinion before I sit here for 2 hours porting all of these over. Thanks!

2 things...

On your old phone, were the contacts stored on the SIM or on the phone itself (since some phones default to storing numbers in phone, so more advanced features can be used)? If they are not stored on the SIM, then put the SIM back in your old phone and copy your numbers to your SIM card.

Also, there should be a program called SIM Manager on your Wing. This will tell you if there are any numbers on the SIM. But I believe the wm5/6 contact manager displays both outlook contacts (which are synced from outlook/exchange) and SIM contacts. But check the options for the contact manager.

Thanks, I'll check the SIM manager. They are on the SIM itself as far as I know (I changed the default on my old phone after finding this out the hard way...screen shattered and they were on my phone, not the SIM). Thanks so much!

PS, like the Wing a lot so far.

This is why I keep my phone synced to an Exchange server. I got a new phone this week and it took less than a minute to get my email and contacts up to speed.
