My contract with T mobile ends in November and I am looking for a new phone. I would like to get internet but I am a returning to collage student right now and I dont want to spend a lot of money on a phone or paying $25+ extra for a data plan. I am looking for a phone that can get internet at wifi hot spots instead.

Are there any good deals on phones that get wifi.

Yes, lots. What else are you looking for in a phone? The G1 is probably T-Mobile's best internet phone w/ wifi, but they require a data plan on it (although you could get one on ebay or something). You could also go with a Blackberry Curve (either original or 8900 series depending on what you want to spend). They also have several Windows Mobile options (Dash, Dash 3G, Touch Pro II).

Quality, a long battery life but other then that...just cheapness and wifiness :) I would like to avoid the data plan though. The extra fee adds up. Is buying a phone though ebay a good idea. You can save a lot of money by signing up for a 2 year contract.

This may be relevant to your thought process: WiFi

Yes, a 2 year contract looks like it saves money - but not necessarily. Be sure and add up all the payments and compare. What it does is lend you money or a device up front, and you more than pay for it over 2 years. It makes things more affordable in the near term.

I bought an unlocked Nokia phone off Amazon with Wifi for the same reason as you so I don't need a date plan.

The trouble with renewing your contract is they are likely going to require you to have a data plan. I am least familiar with T-Mobile but pretty much everyone is requiring a data plan on smartphones and the only chance you have to avoid it is buying off contract.

Has anyone tryed searching the web. Some of my coworkers got a free smartphone without a data plan. I did it as well and it worked out. It is more risky then buying direct from a phone company but the deals are much better. Im think Im gona try it again.
