New phone time!

MDE

Lifer
I want to upgrade from my awful LG Voyager to a smartphone. I'm eligible for a discount although my Verizon contract ends 4\30\10. My choices are (for now):

HTC Ozone ($50)
Samsung Omnia ($100)
Refurb iPhone 3G ($50 + ETF)
Wait

My original plan was to pick up a Zune HD to replace my Zune 30 and use the phone's WiFi to give the Zune a wireless connection wherever I go, which sticks me with Windows Mobile or a Nokia phone from what I've read (first choice was a Storm 2).

The Ozone is appealing for the keyboard and price.
Omnia has a great camera but a finicky touchscreen.
The iPhone is an iPhone.

I'm on a budget of basically whatever I can sell my Voyager and an old KRZR for, and really don't want to spend any more than that. The drawback of the iPhone is eating Verizon's ETF and slightly higher monthly rates, but I wouldn't have much of a reason to spend $220 on a Zune HD then.

Also, does anyone know how Verizon prorates the ETF? I've heard it was $175 minus $5 per month, but not too sure.

EDIT: I'm willing to hack\jailbreak\whatever any of the phones if that influences your choice.

My personal preference is for an Android phone like the T-mobile G1 or MyTouch. Or carry it over to AT&T if you prefer.
Or get a prepay phone for now and wait for the next-gen HTC phones to come out.

You can find a dozen or more threads in this forum concerning any of those phones.

Another vote to wait for the Storm 2. It might be on both VZW and AT&T, but that is just a rumor for now.

Incorrect.

Which part is incorrect?

The AT&T part, the Verizon part, or just a rumor part (or a combo of them)?

How is AT&T in your area compared to VZW?

I left VZW in June for the iPhone 3GS and after dealing with no network connectivity with full bars outside, a couple dropped calls, and no service inside the building where I work (right next to a window) I am selling my iPhone and going back to VZW. It hurts to pay that $100 phone bill knowing that I cannot use it 50% of the time.

If you upgrade and stay with VZW I would advise a one year contract just in case the iPhone does come to VZW next year. It is a great device, terrible network. From the current selection most likely the Omnia.

Can't u afford new iPhone 3G for only 99 buck? Not sure about new storm 2 is going to kill iPhone 3GS real painfully

At home it's alright, a friend has an iPhone and he doesn't have any complaints about coverage. At work (O'Hare Airport), everything works, so no big deal there.

A refurb is half the price and has the same warranty. Why would I buy new?

Yes, more clarification is needed. It's coming to VZ for sure. Here is the rumor about it coming to at&t.

NP. They will get something, just not S2.

I like the Ozone, especially because Verizon's version includes a quad-band GSM radio.

If I were you, I'd wait for the Omnia II, but that's only because I freakin' love that phone.
