I haven't follow the new CPU for a while, so I don't really know what exactly the difference between new Pentium line and Core 2 Duo (I personally own one).

It seems both are 64bit, both are dual core. And it seems the only real difference is Pentium does not have hyperthreading and no virtual technology, and probably smaller cache, is that right?

I'm looking for general CPU that's for home usage (for my sister) on the cheap side, yet I don't want it too shabby, and it must be able to run Photoshop student edition.

Core 2 Duo doesn't have Hyperthreading either.

The main difference is cache size. The newest Pentiums have 2MB of L2 cache, while Core 2 Duos have either 3MB or 6MB. Pentiums also have a lower FSB.

The Clarkdale pentium is a DOG. Totally useless without HT. If you want a clarkdale. The 530 is the one to get

Thanks. I think I have better idea now. It looks like Pentium E5200 and above should be able to handle the job.

I recommend the E6500 since it does support VT and runs at 2.93GHz for just under $100. Only thing missing is the SSE4 and larger cache. Don't know how Intel released this one.
