New PC

I am in the process of building myself a new PC and pretty much have all the components chosen.

AMD ATHLON 64 3500+ PROCESSOR S939 VENICE or maybe a dual core AMD
DFI LANPARTY UT NF4 ULTRA-D

But I can't make up my mind on the RAM. I am debating getting 2 GB (2 X 1024mb) or 1GB (2 X 512mb) Is it worth getting 2GB ? The PC will mostly used for gaming, DVD encoding and day to day use. I would like to overclock a little (nothing extreme) Basically get my processor to 3800+ speeds. I would like to run at the lowest latencies possible while over clocking

How are these choices for 2 GB of ram

If you want to bullet-proof your PC, then install 2 GB of RAM (2 x 1GB single side RAM module). A RAM that's rated at 2.5-3-3-7-1T should be sufficient for good performance. It's much more cost effective to raise the FSB and use memory divider for more speed/performance. Any quality brand name Value RAM will easy allow you to bump the FSB speed from 200 MHz to 250 MHz with that processor.

Personally, I would go with an AMD 64 3000 Venice and overclock it to +3800 speed (2.4GHz).

One thing you need to look at is the motherboard that you have chosen, not just any memory will work with that mobo. I would for sure go with the OCZ, no memory works better with the DFI board you have chosen then that memory. You can also consider going with some OCZ value select VX if you want to save some more money, trust me on this....IF YOU GET THAT MOTHERBOARD GO WITH SOME OCZ.

The other guy who posted above me is correct for any other motherboard, but when he says any value ram should work IT WON"T, not with this motherboard.
