I went to the link for the Radeon x800 xt at ecost.com. Great price and I was just about to order but wanted some feedback on ecost. Went to reseller.com and didn't like what I read about them. I rather buy from someone that has better feedback than get burned at the end just because I wanted a better price.

I've notice the popular high end video cards are hard to come by. Seems like people are upgrading because of games like Doom 3 and Far Cry I'm assuming.

Yeah I got that same keyboard that you would take for my sister's system. I also use the same one, but in black. Let me tell you, the black one looks soo much better and sleeker than the old boring white one..

Hmmm. Now I'm looking more towards the 6800GT and OCing it to an Ultra. Do any of you know were I can find one cheap?

The version recommended by AnandTech in the recent overclocking guide, is the evga 6800gt. I picked one up for $388 at newegg. It came with Farcry. There is also a doom3 version available.

Did you check to see if all vendors are reliable? There are some real horror stories out there. Especially about the X800XT.

They either cancel on you after weeks in processing, ship you a x800p instead of the XT, or they send it to you via snail mail that could take up to a month.

The only thing I can see missing you may want to think about is PC3500 Ram. Especially if you ever want to overclock the 3500. It would be major overkill for games though. Since I havent played a game yet that couldnt push 1600x1200 with max quality on my 3000 64. But you seem like you want nothing but the best.

Maybe some OCz pc3500 EB or even 3700 EB.

Would that RAM work with all the components I mentioned? I noticed that the motherboard's highest DDR for the RAM was 400. That's why I wasn't sure if I could go higher or not.

Here is a link to the MSI forums where people list the types and specs of the memory they are using with the MSI AMD nvidia based boards. You will see that they definitely use 3500 as well.

I'm not sure on that. I read some reviews from Anandtech and tomshardware.com and it looked as though the X800XT performed better under those circumstances.

True, I was remembering based on some Doom3 benches where the 6800s do perform better, but we all know the 6800s run very well on Doom3. Anyway, I just looked at some other benches on AT and your statement is consistent with them.

It was on Anandtech that you read that. However, the final conclusion was that the 800xt performs better on some applications while the 6800 performed better on others. The recommendation was that since the cards were so close, it was really a toss up depending on the apps you were going to run and personal preference. Further, AnandTech's testing concluded that if everything was approximately equal, nvidia cards gained an extra performance boost when installed on nvidia chipset mother boards, such as the one you indicated in your specs.

I was looking at both cards as well. However, since I knew I would be using the Nvidia chipset motherboard, I went with the 6800gt. Especially knowing that the 6800gt will easy become the 6800 ultra with the use of coolbits.

Okay. Thanks for that. I now know that I will be getting the 6800GT. Also, I would only need about a 420W power supply to run this, right?

If you overclock, you may need a bit more juice. In the high end guide and the overclocker's guide, the Antec 480w true power was given high recommendation. I think that would be a good choice. I almost went with that but opted for the OCZ 520w smooth power, which is a bit pricey. Mine should arrive today.

If you all click on that link for the monitor, you'll notice that it is now 20% off. Do you guys think it will drop any lower? I haven't seen a price drop in a long while, but I want to know whether I should buy it or not now. Any suggestions?
