MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
128MB eVGA Nvidia 6800

I've got virtually the same rig, except that I'm sticking with my 9700Pro. Also, I'm using Corsair's TwinXMS series. If you're spending mad money on everything else, I'd recommend that you get better RAM. I've built everything into my old Lian-Li PC-60 Aluminium, and I've no complaints to make. So I'd recommend either the PC-60 or a PC-70. You did not mention a power supply. I've a Thermaltake PurePower Butterfly 480 Watt, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's very stable on all three rails. Don't let the 480 Watt spec fool you though. That's the sustained output level. The burst power output level is 550Watt from what I've heard.

wow looks great, yes you can get faster ram, but i would stick with what u have and just run a divider. a64's dont really perform better with lower latencys so just stick with the value ram. You wont see any difference.

Will all these parts be compatible with eachother? Also, I'm wondering why I need to partition a harddrive?

This will be my first build, and I'm kind of new to the whole thing, so bare with me =]

Yes all these parts will work together. no you dont need to partion the harddrive.

also I agree with Shady about the 6800gt. Its an easy overclock to ultra speeds :p

I don't see why not to get the x800 xt if he can aford it. The 6800gt is the best at it's price though..

A very good link for your case: Frozen CPU

This company is great. I've been buying from them for quite some time and I have had zero problems.

1) Get a good quality case. You could buy a cheap case but why? A good solid case will last you years.

2) Get a solid power supply and stay away from the cheap brands. I have a 430 watt Enermax and have had no problems.

system looks great.

Very nice PC but if you are into overclocking getting a 6800GT might not be a bad choice and oc it to ultra speeds but the X800 would still perform great no matter what you choose. and yes you do need to partision the hard drive but that comes when you install the OS (windows) which does it automatically basicaloly and is really simple.

That monitor is gonna PWN. My freind has that same one and its great. I might be buying one soon.

I just upgraded my sysytem same mobo, proc. and memory. Had to get a new hardrive cause for some reason the NEO wouldn't recognize my IBM 40 gig hardrive...mabey I fooked it when I unhooked it.

Anyways I have a geforce 5900fx at 440/880 and am getting around 5700 in 3dmark03 and have had no problems/crashes playing Thief 3. Everything went together fine, no problems cept the IDE/FDD and ATx power connectors are kinda close together. Also the manual is kinda confusing relating to running the mem in dual channel.....use dimm1 and dimm2 for dual channel.

if it was me, id go with an nvidia card. looks awesome! one other small thing- i find it really useful to have more than one optical drive, just for convenience- less swapping out of discs.

I am just now figuring out and ordering parts for my first system build. If you do any kind of digital photography, you may want to drop the floppy alone, and get a floppy combo for about $15 more. It would have both the floppy and the compact flash card readers in the same drive.

I just order the Cooler Master Stacker case, as it will give me plenty of room for physical growth and cooling. Also ordered the evga 6800gt which I will take up to ultra speed with coolbits. I have the audigy sound card.

I will be installing two seagate sata 200gb harddrives in Raid 1 configuration to have as a safety backup for my system. Power supply will be the OCZ Power stream 520w.

I will go with either Crucial's ballistix or OCZ's 3700EB ram, but I am having difficulty finding the 3700 EB right now.

Still not sure what processor and board right now. I want a 939 system and if DFI had their 939 board out right now, I would be set, but right now, I am in a bit of a holding pattern. I am collecting parts and hoping the 939 DFI will come out soon.

Hmm. Thanks for the replies. So, no one has anything bad to mention about my system except mainly the X800XT?

If you really are going to wait until the end of the year to build, definitely look for the DFI board with Nvidia chipset as it will be faster and I suspect more stable than what we have seen from MSI. I have been waiting for a while to buy my MSI, but now I seen too many people having issues with that board.

If you are still looking for a case, as I indicated, I finally decided on the stacker after months of internal debate, but I also like the Cooler master Praetorian. It was a top pick in the last high end guide.

Great system! I'd get the CoolerMaster WaveMaster case - very sexy! I would also have to agree with everyone else and go for a 6800GT.
