I think this is a decent deal. I haven't signed up yet, but it looks very promising.

http://www.pagoo.com

It appears is if they give you a phone number that people can call and it rings on your PC!

Looks like also have PC to phone service (a la dialpad).

The phone to PC is what intrigues me the most. I haven't seen another service like this and seems like a safe way to allow someone to contact you anonymously.

Very interesting I think.

I'll probably try it out in the next day or so. I just wanted to see if anyone else tried it out yet.

It's free during their current "preview release" which I am not sure how long it lasts. Don't need a credit card sign up.

Let me know.

very interesting for those with single phone lines.
Also, something to watch out for with scams now.
They give you a valid phone number to call and it is now actually somewhere else in the world and you think you are calling Irvine California or someplace else.
BUT, wait a minute, it's ok to give out your credit card number if you called them right?
Damn, I think I just thought up a scam.
Maybe I should erase this.

ok..now I tried it...here's the story.

You sign up with VERY limited personal information.
You choose your area code from about 30 or so possible ones.
You get assigned a phone number plus a 3 digit extenstion.
You download some software and it also reinstalls netmeeting.
With the software running, if someone dials your # and your extension, it rings on your pc, you answer it and talk using your headset/mic. The caller first gets asked to dial your ext. Then it says something like pagoo is searching for the user. You can also have calls forwarded to a regular phone line or to pagoo voice mail.

You can also call from your PC to a regular phone, just like dialpad.

Quality seems about the same as dialpad to me.

I don't know how long this service will be free though. No ads
at least for now.

Very promising. I recommend trying it.

Works, sort of. Some calls go thru, some don't. But if you ignore the calls, you get Voicemail, which is way cool. It's too bad they use extensions on standard numbers, since otherwise you could call forward your regular phone and get your calls when you are online.

I am sure they have changed a lot since then, but I tried out Pagoo probably 2 years ago. Back then they gave you an 800 # with an extension, but you could only leave a message that you would receive on your computer after the caller hung up (kind of like an answering machine). Back then you would get a busy signal about half the time you tried to call the 800 #. I have no idea what they are like now though.

Is this kind of like dial pad? If so, I guess the only difference is this service allows you to call from a phone to a PC. Nice, if it works.
