New PC seems to hibernate instead of standby

Recently built a new PC...

ABit IP35 Pro
C2D e6750@3.4
2GB Crucial RAM
eVGA 8800 GTS
Seasonic 550w
XP Pro fully patched

Anyway, whenever the system goes into "standby" mode, either triggered through the shut down menu or through being idle...it seems to hibernate instead. The fans shut off and I cannot wake through the keyboard/mouse. Hitting the main power button brings me back (although it's not booting up from scratch). Any idea what could cause this? I would like my PC to just go into standby where I can wake it with the keyboard.

Thanks for any help!

well, is hibernate enabled? i know that in the power control panel, you can configure your computer to hibernate when you press the standby key. maybe that's it?

Nope, stand by is what's set in the power settings. And if I go to shut down and select standby, it seems to hibernate. Maybe it's not in hibernate, but the keyboard/mouse won't wake it up and my case fans all stop. When I hit the power button, the system recovers back to XP with whatever windows I had open.
