New PC Problems

Last month I bought a ASUS A8N SLi Premium, XFX 7800GTX, AMD 3700+ SanDiego 1Mb L2 Cache, OCZ 1GB 512x2 Dual Channel Kit (2-2-2-5 PC3200), Hitachi 160GB Sata Drive, and an OCZ Modstream 450w. Originally I first started the comp and had 2 problems, 1 the sata drive didn't show up, and 2nd when i put the memory in the correct places as recommended by ASUS the monitor wouldn't come out of standby (had no picture). So i fixed the 1st problem that the cables weren't quite on perfectly so that was solved but I still had the picture problem with both sticks in the MB. I put in 1 512 and installed windows in hopes that installing new drivers would fix the problem but they didn't. So i just put the ram in a different slot (A2 not B1 which is the one thats malfunctioning) no problem with that but i have begun hearing my board beep at times while playing intense games at max setting (doom 3, fear demo) and now many exe and zip/rar files that I download from the internet are saying they are corrupt. Never on regular installs from cd do the corruption errors occur but only from downloaded files. Those are the symptomes and what Ive done so any help on the subject would be of great help because im stumped.

PS: I only have 2 120mm fans, 1 90mm fan, a system blower, and 1 CD/RW drive other than what was mentioned above on that power supply

Current memory setup: A1/A2 (havnt tried A1/B2 or B1/B2 and anything in B1 is what causes monitor problem)

If I bought a new motherboard and the memory slots did not work as advertised,
I would RMA the mobo.
Why screw around with defective equipment ??

Good Luck

I 2nd bendix. The mobo is obviously defective in 1 way, and it sounds like it could be even worse. Return it, get a new one, problem solved.

Thats what I was thinking but wanted to avoid waiting for an RMA as much as possible but it seems more and more that thats gona have to happen

Are you giving the memory modules a proper healthy dose of voltage, or did you leave the mobo's DIMM voltage at AUTO? Try 2.8 volts if you're interested in taking another run at it, and put the RAM where Asus says to.

If you're not sure where to find that voltage setting, it's in the BIOS under Advanced > JumperFree Configuration.

On a separate tangent, that beeping under load doesn't sound like a good thing either. Double-check that you've got your CPU heatsink firmly seated and that Q-Fan is disabled in the BIOS so the CPU fan is not running at low speeds.
