New PC,need some help

Well, there's a chance that I'm buying a new PC and I wanted to ask you guys some questions.

I'm gaming at 12*10, so I think that a 8800GTS 320 is good enough. (I would like full settings with 4XAA no AF at that level) Will I have to get a better PSU or can I use some generic PSU? I couldn't find any benchmarks for the 320 which tested power usage.

I'm also thinking about getting an E6600, and two gigs of RAM.

So another question I've got is, do I need 2 gigs or RAM or will 1 be enough? I'm not sure if I'll use Vista or XP, but from what I hear 1 is the minimum for vista, and 2 is basically like 1 in XP.

I've heard good things about the E6600, so that ok right?

8800GTS is fine...you might want to wait for the 8600/8300 to come out next month to see what kind of performance they will get.

stick with xp. get vista when SP1/SP2 comes out...not worth to get it right now.

2x1GB is fine.

E6600 overclocks great. at least 3Ghz is what mostly everyone has been getting.

Errr, I might be using generic RAM, so I'm guessing that I won't get much of an OC.
 
So use generic PC6400; it doesn't cost much more than PC5300, and even PC5300 will give you 3.0 Ghz with an E6600. Whether or not you'll be able to use a "generic psu" will all be determined by how large it is, or how many amps of 12v power it claims to be able to supply. I wouldn't, though, especially with expensive equipment. A psu is the only thing in any system that can take out any/every other component along with it, when it dies. That's worth a few extra dollars to me.

I wouldn't go with either of those. Thermaltake PSU's have weak 12v rails, and are far from high quality. Antec isn't so great anymore either, using cheaper capacitors, my 450w Antec recently fried itself.

Go with something good, Fortron, Enermax, Seasonic. Never skimp on the PSU.
 
Good deals (AR) available right now on Corsair power supplies ... $99 for 520W and $124 for the 620W. Made by Seasonic for Corsair and includes modular cabling system plus 5yr warranty. HARD to beat.
 
Hmm, the PCs price is just a bit more than I wanted to pay,
I was wondering if getting a e6400 instead of a e6600 would make any difference if I'd want to OC in the future (I just want to get to around 3 GHZ), and if I'll feel the difference at stock speeds?
 
OK, sorry to bump this up just wanted to ask one last question...

these PSUs:

Is there a real difference between these PSUs (should I just get the one with the lowest price)?
 
If price is going to be a big concern for you, then I would recommend the Enahnce 5150GH 500W PSU for $69 at eWiz.com. It has had great reviews and runs at >80% efficiency.

You may also want to check johnnyguru's site for recommendations and ratings.
