do i have to install something first and upgrade or can i run the ISO i made

i might just throw the current SSD being used (which has win8) in there and then do a clean install once it's booted into windows but would like to know the options i have.

the new mobo has UEFI which means i can do a secure boot yadda yadda yadda right?

Not entirely sure, but I am about to see if the upgrade will work on a different SSD from a bootable USB drive. I'll let you know if it requires a version of windows or if itll work from scratch. I doubt it will work without windows being on there.

You should just be able to install from the bootable USB, it shouldn't be a problem.

and the upgrade ver won't ask to see proof of an earlier OS install? i mean installing on a bare drive now

hmm, that guy installs it and it accepts the licence key but this says:

Then maybe you should prevent the OS from installing with an Upgrade Key. I just did a clean install from the USB key created by the Windows 8 Upgrade tool, I then formatted my HDD to install from it, and AFTER the install completes it tells me I cant Activate.

That's information that would be handy BEFORE I try my install and it lets me wipe my whole drive.

hmm the other thing though is i have a licence for the media center edition which activated windows 8 anyway ( a bug apparently) and upgrades it to pro. so that might work. install win8 basic, install media center and then do the updates

All you gotta do is, make a usb drive, then yadda yadda yadda, and then your done.
