New PC, GTX 260 has no power - solved!

I just built a new PC for my buddy, here are the specs:

Intel Core I7 920
6GB OCZ ram
Asus P6T mobo
EVGA GTX 260 videocard
PCP&C Silencer 610W PS

Everything is hooked up, so I hit the power button but it won't boot. The standby lights on the mobo come on, and all the fans spin up - except for the fan on the video card which does nothing.

I checked that both 6-pin connectors are properly connected to the video card and they are. But no matter what I do it seems that the card is not powering up.

Any ideas?

I just hooked his GTX 260 up in my PC and it works. So the video card is not the problem.

The next thing to try is to put your graphics card in his computer and see if it will work.

Another next thing to try would be to try one of the other PCIe ports. From the images on Newegg it looks like there are 3 of them, 2 blue and 1 white. What does the manual say about running single cards? Does it advise you to install them into specific slots?

smoothvirus, on the motherboard just behind the ps2 port on the i/o is a 4pin/8pin power connection. If it is not hooked up the board will not boot.

I figured it out. 🙂

It turns out one of the pins in the 6-pin PCIX power connector had slid back about a centimeter so that it was not lined up properly in the plastic housing. I took a toothpick and pushed it back into place. The pin slid into place with a click.

As soon as I hooked it back up the system booted properly and I'm installing Windows on it right now.
