went to get the HDD Diagnostic, but I couldn't find my 7L250S0 exact model on there and guess the Maxtor PowerMax 4.21 is for IDE drives only sice it just hung ther ewhen trying to detect drives.
I think I'm going to back up some things and swap out a drive and see what happens *shrugs*

Try doing the same tasks with just one stick of ram. If it still freezes, switch to just the other stick of ram.

If you mean same tests? Wouldn't the Prime95 or memtest show something with both in?

Not the same tests, do the same "tasks" which made it freeze previously. Like if it would freeze overnight while you were doing a specific task, try to replicate it with the same task but with only 1 stick of ram. Perhaps it doesn't get errors with Memtest or what not until it gets hot or some other factor.

AH sorry misunderstood! It froze with 1 stick (either or) when leaving the PC go as well. It just doesn't happen overn ight, but randomly. Good happen within 4min of a fresh reboot even.

I ended up installing the OS on an IDE drive, but that won't tell me if its really the drive or maybe the ata controller *shrugs*....I'll give it a go for a few hrs/days and see what happens. I'm hoping its just the drive and I'll send it back for a new one.

Well it doesn't appear it was the HDD after changing the SATA to IDE one. I awoke this morning to a frozen PC :|

I would presume however though that a secondary drive may cause the freezing as well?!?!

I'm kinda reluctant to make this post, but.....

Since the last freeze I've been OK. I guess maybe that was a fluke - I hope!

Maybe it coulda been just a bad OS install?!?!!

I could install the OS back onto that one partition I had, but doesn't M$ only give you like 3 installs of XP before having to call and explain to them why you are installing it more?

Hi Guys

I've got exactly the same problem with my machine, I just built myself a new one about a week or so ago now, see the spec below. Been freezing ever since I brought it home. I run a computer company and I have swapped every bit of hardware, even the hard drive. Spent a lot of time on this, just been told by a friend to turn off the cool'n'quiet in the bios to see if that does anything, am trying this a present and will post the results, there is no way this is hardware though.

Nvidia 7800GTX 512mb

Good thing ya started your own thread Reedy, haha!

I updated all the drivers and such so maybe that was it or the OS install, not really sure. But I am sending my other HDD back and getting anew one since I've been ok on the IDE drive.
