You're never going to make more than 500-1k a month doing hot deals. That's assuming you have lots of patience and want to deal with rebates...

$1,000 a month for MINIMAL effort is nothing to scoff at and rebates aren't bad at all (as long as you aren't STUPID). I just got $229.95 in rebate checks in the mail today.

Naw, I was mostly just messing with you when I said that. I was perfectly happy with the 800 a month that I made while in school. Rebates are a pain in the ass and I hate them though. Anyways, good luck to you and keep it up as most of us who do pretty well on ebay started off dabbling in selling hot deals. I know a few people who make anywhere from 20k to 350k on ebay and they all started off by messing around ebaying hto deals. It just naturally makes you wiser and you learn how to sell other things and move up on ebay. As in, now when I see something it's more like I wonder if that'll sell...

Just curious, how much are you making off hot deals?

Share some ideas then! :D

I tried selling software on Ebay (completely legit, following all copyright and license restrictions). Made chump change :(

You could get computers, format the computers, sell them without operating systems as most people only look at the physical specs and sell the OEM OS's with a piece of hardware...

I'm telling you this because I'm too lazy to do it. I don't like selling things that involve work. If I had time I'd do it though..just an idea i came up with one day..

hmm i do not formally run a business.

every once in a while i get a deal from a liquidator contact i have, for like say 2 dozen geforce 5900 ultras. so for like 3 weeks i'll have a ton of sales on ebay and then a month of nothing. what the heck would they categorize that as?

plus i am a computer junkie, and do things like buy a laptop, get tired of it and sell it on ebay (usually on a hot deal, so i really never lose money). i guess my computer part turnover is high.

this policy is retarded, i dont have a url or a business. oh well. stupid paypal.

i noticed ebay and paypal are hiring like crazy in the san jose area, all levels of experience. i'm sure they need all these people for all these new "Features"

Is it just me or is this just a bunch of nonsense over nothing?

Business category? Private Sales
Sales Venue? Ebay
URL? ebay.com/urllistofyourcurrentauctions

Now if you're selling outside of ebay then I guess you have something to worry about.

Perhaps this is a way for ebay to crack down on direct private sales outside of ebay (since they lose their cut)?

Its not paypal. I'm almost 100% sure its the government. The government will continue to force paypal to abide by banking regulations, the government feels like it is losing power obviously.

The government has nothing to do with paypal. They lost the case against paypal which probed paypal's business practices as a financial institution. That's why paypal is still not required to FDIC insure your accounts, nor abide by credit card lender standards.

NFS4: Is this info available on PP's site? I can't find it. I'm a Business user and haven't received any emails about this yet. I make considerably more than 2k/month so I definitely fall into this category.

Thanks

Personal Account Receiving Limits

Notice Date: January 8, 2004
Effective Date: February 13, 2004
Starting on February 13, 2004, PayPal will begin capping the amount Personal account holders in the U.S., U.K., and Canada are able to receive per month. The cap will be the equivalent of $1,000 USD, based on the Primary Currency of the account. In addition, users will no longer be allowed to split payments between Personal and Premier/Business accounts. Only ecommerce payments received from eBay, auction, or website sales will count towards the receiving limit.
