New P4T-E with CYP RDRAM clock chip @ GoogleGear! NO!!!!!!

ARGH!!!

I got my P4T-E today from Googlegear.com and it has the CYP chips!!!! (Rated at 400MHz, not 600MHz -- NO 533 MHz RAM!!!!)

Well, I suppose this board is going to go back. I'm starting to wonder if the NEW Asus P4T-E boards are the ones with the CYP chipsets... someone else posted that his P4T-E he got in Nov 2001 has the ICS (PC1200) chipset.

On another note, do you guys think the CYP clockgen chips could get the RAM running at 450 MHz ?
 
My P4T-E has ICS clock generators...I bought my board about 2 weeks ago, but then I am in Hong Kong and not the US.

From what I have seen, the Cypress clock generators should be able to do 450MHz (4 x 112.5) without too much difficulty. You should be able to reach an FSB of 120MHz.

I am wondering if you put heat spreaders/heat sinks on the clock generators (small though they are), you might be able to get just a bit more speed out of them.
 
I picked up a P4T-E in December and it has the ICS clock generator. I'm afraid vendors will be getting many returns on these boards by enthusiasts now that people know about the difference in clock generators.

That pretty much settles it in my mind. The new boards are the ones with the CYP chips, not the old ones. So Asus is probably cost cutting or something. Well that stinks! I guess I'll be stuck at a measly 2.1GHz. <grrr>

Isn't the manual a little confusing? 😛
 
OutsideLoop claims to have the P4T-E with the ICS chips. They are more expensive than most , but others such as Mwave and Newegg probably wont crack open a box to check for ICS clock generators.
